Friday Dinner @ Andiamo

Last night after a nice wine tasting at Susan’s, we stopped at Andiamo for dinner. We arrived a few minutes before they opened, Shortly the host came and turned the sign to ‘Open’ and we went in. We were seated at our favorite table and ordered a bottle of sparkling water and a 2006 Marchesi di Gresy Barbera d’Asti. Then we ordered a Caesar Salad to share. The Barbera was even better than the last time we had it - bright fruit with good acidity and a medium long finish, very nice with the garlicky Caesar. We then tried to order a small mushroom pizza, only to be told they don’t have small pizzas any more. Sob!! So ithoiut our usual appetizer of a small pizza we decided to share their crispy polenta with rosemary-gorgonzola sauce. It was a good as Melissa said - crispy outside and tender and flavorful on the inside, with a rich sauce. This was also very nice with the Barbera.

Then we ordered a 2005 Produttori di Barbaresco Normale and our mains of Puttnaesca with yellowtail tuna for Carollee and Duck Breast w/garlic mashed potatoes and spinach for me. Both were very good, my duck was a bit overcooked (barely pink in the center), but still tender and moist. The Barbaresco was still a bit tannic, but rich and nice with the food. The food tempered the tannins some and the rich fruit was very good with both mains.

Then for dessert we shared a cookie plate with an intense double espresso each. Another nice evening at Andiamo.

We’d planned to visit a different restaurant every night on our honeymoon, but ended up at Andiamo three times for that appetizer. It has a fairly unique texture for polenta, one I’ve never been able to duplicate. I’m glad to hear it’s still as good!
