Had a bottle of this tonight with roast chicken, rice, and asparagus.
A nice wine that punches a bit above it’s weight and is in a perfect spot. I had pulled it for near term drinking a few weeks ago, so it was sitting upright in the wine cabinet when I found out that my GF was cooking dinner. Popped, decanted, and poured. A lovely medium to light purple color with some slight fading around the edges. Not quite dusky rose on the edge, but you can see it has some age on it. Modest nose doesn’t promise mush, although what is there is nice – berries and a touch of talc. But the first taste is where in comes through. Ripe red fruits in a weightless mix elegance and freshness. I don’t want to overdo it, as it isn’t a perfect wine. It’s lacking a bit in the mid palate, but it’s a very good village wine that is very light, elegant, and fresh. Just perfect for current drinking. And a great match for the chicken. You could easily mistake it for a 1er cru in an average to good vintage as it has that characteristic Burgundian combination of ripeness and weightlessness. Very enjoyable.
