Pitti Gola, Volpi e l’uva and Enoteca Spontanea for wine bars. Ruggero, Sergio, Cammillo and Burde for traditional : Burde is near the airport and only open for lunch but worth the taxi ride
Santarpia and Giotto for pizza. Pinchiorri for fine dining
Osteria dell’enoteca is unfortunately currently closed do to renovations and hopefully will reopen soon…
Here’s the list offered by a local who seemed to be very passionate about good food. We did try vini et Vecchi Sapori and it was fabulous (and as there were only two of us for lunch we were able to secure a spot without a reservation with great luck). Il Santo Bevitore was a standout exceptional meal and tremendous value. Cibreo (the newer location near the Town center) was a disappointment relative to expectations
Surprised re Cibreo
If you eat at Buca Lapi, go at 9pm or after when the other tourists have dined and left. We go whenever we’re in Florence. Bistecca for two.
Thinking of visiting Tuscany towards the end of August, and have been before to areas south of Florence/Siena.
Has anyone experience with Eastern Tuscany, like Poppi (Ristorante Parc) or Moggiona (Ristorante Mater)?
Was just looking for some place a little quieter, perhaps a little cooler, far from the madding crowds.
Not Tuscany (but close)….try Assisi. Beautiful town/views with amazing history
Thanks … we’ve been to Assisi before but just for a day trip. Will consider it now ..
Assisi is lovely in the evening after all the day trippers have departed.
Won’t it be shut down in late August? Everyone at the beach?
Here’s a place in Northern Tuscany in a cooler beautiful area. Haven’t been there in 10- 15 years though.

Assisi is a bit far. Will probably stay around Pienza for a few days and up near Arezzo, where there is also horse riding near the national park, which my wife likes to do, and i take my life into my own hands in accompanying her ![]()
Thx for suggestions.
Following…we’ll be there in September. I’ve NEVER BEEN TO ITALY so I’m looking forward to it
Around 15 years we stayed there and without a visit to the enoteca there I’m not sure I’d be in to wines and on this forum.
A lovely village, enjoy your time there!
In Pienza, consider the seemingly unheralded Trattoria da Fiorella. Years ago, friends in a nearby village recommended it. I’ve been 2 or 3 times with satisfying results.
Enoteca del Piti Goya
Osteria Dell Enoteca
For lunch

Mercado Centrale
Does anyone know if you can take away unfinished bottles from a restaurant, in Italy. Let’s say we only drink half a bottle and want to bring the remainder back to our room, for later.
In France you can, but in Italy, I do not know.
Pienza is my favorite place in Italy
-Views are breathtaking
-Perfectly situated between Montalcino and Montepulciano
-Quaint little village in it’s own right
Favorite restaurant is the trattoria in the La Bandita Townhouse (a great hotel)
In Italy regarding wine you can do whatever you want, there are now restricting laws.
No problem with that in my experience.
We booked a hotel in Moggiona, I Tre Baroni, which has a nice restaurant, Mater, and plan to do some cycling and horseriding nearby.
Then we booked an agriturismo just outside Pienza. Plan to check out La Bandita Caffe, Trattoria da Fiorella … per recommendations

Lots of places nearby … Montepulciano, Montalcino, Trequanda, San Quirico d’Orcia etc.
Then up towards Arezzo for a wedding (reason for trip in the 1st place).
Appreciate the reccs and will report back after trip on how it went late august in Tuscany.
let me know which agriturismo you go with. Was looking at one for mid-July!
