First Lou, now Palate...

So sad that Palate has closed somewhat unexpectedly… Made so many enduring friendships there…

Oh, man. That is sad news. Palate and Lou were two favorite places of mine out there.

In pasadena? Where did you see this?

Cheers.

Trust me, Palate is no more.

That sucks. Loved the wine bar.

Wow, I had no idea, didn’t see that coming. Very sad, great place, many great memories there.

Hopefully something better comes into that space. And hopefully the new owners don’t spout off stupid political statements on their Facebook page alienating a large segment of their customers.

Hi Poppy! I enjoyed two memorable meals at Palate and two fun late nights at Lou, sad to see them both go.

What kind of political statements did they make, regular old politics, or the politics of how some wines are right and others are wrong?

Forgive me if it should be obvious, but I’m not sure which place you are talking about. I’ve never seen anything political on the Palate FB page; Lou on Vine doesn’t have a FB page (as far as I know); and Lou’s personal page (where he writes on wine) is just that, his personal page. Furthermore, I could not possibly imagine that that “something better” could ever go into a the divy strip mall on Vine. It’s a miracle that Lou thrived in that location.

George,

So what happened with Palate? Anything you can share?

I always enjoyed going there, liked their eclectic wine lists, and has read on a few occasions about great offlines held there, as well as a few trade tastings . . .

Cheers.

I know they were behind in paying some of us and I think there was hope of an infusion of cash that didn’t come through… victim of the economy, I guess… certainly nothing nefarious…

George, I was talking about Palate, not Lou. A couple of years ago they posted a political statement on the Palate FB page, it was not wine related at all. We haven’t gone back there since, despite storing our wine upstairs. It was a very stupid thing to do. The owner has every right to his opinions and posting them on his personal page is one thing, but to make such a statement from your business page is asinine.

I’m not even from there and I know how out of the way it was. Location, location, location.

I hope they’re able to reboot with a similar concept in a more centralized spot.

Absolute bummer . . .any chance they can resume operations with a cash infusion in the near future???

Can’t comment coz I never saw it but I’ll take your word for it.

I don’t think so. I’m soooooo bummed as I got to meet so many great DJs, musicians, drank fun wine, and when the food was on, it was quite good! Maybe we can get cut chemist, Egon, madlib and friends to through a goodbye bash!

Real bummer, especially since the food has really been back in stride the last 6 months.
Things happen, but they’re big boys and they will move on to the next chapter. What they
managed to create, however, will not soon be forgotten.

That is sad to hear, kind of my go to place for relaxed, fun, euro-centric wine bar with great food. Did seem to be in an odd location, but what the hell do I know, I live on the other side of the orange curtain.

Hate to see a business go down, but man I’ve gone probably four times for wine dinners and each time I’ve been incredibly underwhelmed by the quality of their food. To each their own tho. I know last time we did 5 courses and Curry and I went and had pho right after.

Interesting, hadn’t heard that about Palate’s facebook comments.
