Finally made it....

Sometime in the past, so long ago I can’t remember when, I put my name on the Araujo waiting list. This when the estate Cabernet was $195 per bottle. I’m guessing.

Well, the day has finally come. I came to work today to find an email from Araujo offering me their 2011 allocation. Plus Syrah, plus Olive Oil. All told, well over a thousand dollars for 5 bottles of wine.

I have no interest in the Syrah, but before shipping, the Cabernet shakes out to $330 per bottle. My oh my.

What to do?

That Syrah (not specifically 2011) is awesome stuff.

I made the list years ago, the 1995 vintage was my first and last time buying the wine. Oh yea, the price for the 1995 Cab was $75 but then I think it went up by a large percentage (want to say it went to over $100 per bottle) the following year. Didn’t receive an offer on the syrahs or olive oil at that time, my cab allocation was three bottles. I drank the wines I received but it was a great wine for flippers back in the day.

Well, John…you’ve heard of the saying: “Be careful what you ask for”???
Good greif, man…it’s only friggin’ Cabernet.
Tom

Heck Tom, it’s only grape juice! I work with a guy that was a CPA and he always laughs at me when I talk about wine and says why pay that much for wine when it all ends up in the same place. [tease.gif]

I’ve always quite liked the wines. Got on the list for the 1995 vintage and bought for manny years until I dropped a handful of years ago when the winery price crossed past the price for prior excellent vintages - never looked back…and though I meant to, never went back and bought more of the prior vintages.

You may want to order some of your allocation to stay on the list (if you want to stay) but I doubt the 2011 will be as good as quite a few of the prior vintages which can be had for at or under $330 - I’d hazard a guess that you could find at least 4 and maybe 6-7 vintages to buy with the same or higher scores than the 2011 and lower to much lower prices. For instance the 2001 can be had for $280 and the 2005 for around $280-300…and both are terrific wines.

Whats the secondary market like? if decent, sell three keep two for “free”

At that price I would be drinking Colgin.

Speaking of Colgin, I wonder why they had two release for the Tychon and Cariad a week apart. Seems strange, but what do I know?

agreed - but I am all in either way!
