What steps do YOU take a consumer to avoid getting ripped off in your seafood purchases?

Bruce

Being lucky enough to live near the coast I generally don’t buy frozen seafood except for prawns. Everything else I purchase is fresh. After eating fresh seafood it’s just too hard to revert to frozen as the flavor and texture suffers. This may limit the breadth of what I buy but I’m OK with that.

Same as with wine. Only buy from people and businesses that you can trust. And vote with your feet. And make a hell of an issue out of it if they screw with you.

Choosing a 'monger here is like picking a coffee shop - serious business. This may be a problem for middle America, but it’s not a problem in my outpost/neck-of-the-woods.
