Favorite gloves for handling jalapeños and other hot peppers

I’ve spent a few minutes searching for a discussion of this, but mostly I just run across folks discussing the need to wear gloves. Any recommendation as to type and/or brand of glove that works well?

Personally, I hate wearing gloves, but this stuff works really good and it gives you the protection without having gloves on.

This is the stuff I’ve used. Doing peppers just make sure you get this under your fingernails.

Was a fun afternoon here at elevation, as rather than work my daughter and I prepared some jalapeño poppers for a big family party tomorrow. However, glove-less, and with old man hands and fingers that have seen 68 trips around the sun, micro cracks no doubt throughout my fingers, it’s been a reminder I should use some gloves.

That cream is right up your alley. It fills all the cracks. Washes off with soap and water. One of the dealerships I worked at uses to supply it to us. We put that on before work and when we washed our hands the grease and oil would come right off.

I would buy a box of Nitrile gloves for the kitchen. Latex should work for Jalepenos but if you get into high scoville supposedly it can penetrate.

As a bonus, you can use those for handling beryllium and potentially radioactive parts. Best to learn how to properly doff them, though.

Late but if you find yourself in the situation again, rub vegetable oil on your hands as it disolves the capsaicin. Then wash off with soap and water. In my experience when making hot sauce from peppers hotter than jalapeñs, it won’t remove it all bit tames it significantly.

Nitrile gloves are a great idea. Take it from someone who rubbed his eyes after seeding scotch bonnets.

I’ve had that experience taking out my contacts. While my eyes were getting progressively hotter I wasn’t thinking about the next morning when I would put said contacts back in. Somehow I’ve actually done that to myself twice.

Another vote for nitrile gloves. I used them for years in the lab, and have always kept a box or two at home for any messy work. Just be sure to get the right size.

I have these gloves around for everything. Use them all the time in the kitchen. Also use them in the garage.
