Favorite Crush Music

What is your favorite music to play in the cellar? We have Sirius/XM, so we have been mixing it up some, but just had the dreaded Rap on for the last hour. headbang
What motivates you?

Sorry, I am the Rap fan at the winery. MTV Present’s Jay-Z Unplugged, Graduation, Tha Carter III, Food & Liquor, etc…

Adam, do you remember L.L. Cool J’s Unplugged? It was the first hip hop one and he started with about five guys slamming on acoustic guitars and LOTS of hand percussion with “Mama said Knock You OUT!!!”

This one’s appropriate:

Back at ya Nate:

The Stones.
Best, Jim

Wow, no, I didn’t remember that. Pretty fantastic! Thanks for sharing!

FWIW, I’ve quoted Lil Wayne, Asher Roth, and Jay-Z all in winery newsletters thus far!

I’ve been mix master for the past few weeks.

There’s been a lot of this

and when there is no fear of the touristas

Working the hours we do, we need to keep it loud and moving.

We pretty much listen to a bit of everything, however I HATE rap or wrap or whatever that crap is called, so if I find it rocking my winery it usually doesnt last too long. We are a bit lucky maybe as most of us enjoy the diversity and the YB’s (Young Boys) are not the Gangsta type but college frat boys and high schoolers.
We also don’t allow pants that are falling off, I’ve told them I have no desire to see thier underwear ! Havent had a problem with this for years, since I bought a pair of hideous striped suspenders and made a kid wear them for a week , Hahahaaa
Anyway, we run about 3 different sound systems so you never know - have a bazillion CD’s, from Elvis, the remade Beatles, Green Day, The Dead, Chris Ledoux (sp), Classical, Frank Sinatra - a bit of all.
We have an awesome record store in McMinnville - Ranch Records - they sell both new and used, so we usually just call Laurie (Owner) and tell her to set us up - Fabulous place if you are ever in town.
Out techno man has told me that we can load all of our music on the computers then send it somehow through the winery, and I have seen him in his office with CD’s, so maybe just maybe he is making something cool for us.
Music does really matter at harvest, keeps us all going - just as important as good friends, food and beer !

Oh Linda…such stereotypes! [basic-smile.gif] Even though we play some Rap, last time I checked with all have our pants on around here (there’s always the post-harvest party…but we aren’t there yet) nor do we have any Gangstas around here.

I’d watch out for that Sinatra you are playing though…he really hung with some unsavory characters. And Elvis and the Dead…geez, you guys doing drugs up there too?

To quote Rodney, “can’t we all just get along?” grouphug

PS – Just busting your chops…got a bit of a break today and tomorrow!

When my sister Kimberly is around, it’s Sirius’ The Pulse. When it’s just me… it’s the latest from Boys Like Girls, Hollywood Undead, All Time Low, Cobra Starship, We are Kings, and Hello Monday. Sometimes I go a bit retro and put on Linkin Park or old Green Day.

Haha Adam - we seem to have an affinity for the old “rat pack” days, as we have two cats, one is Frank, the other Deano. I have asked the cellar kids to please NOT bring Sammy home, two is enough.

As far as doing drugs up here, that happens later during harvest - after we hurt ourselves, get sick from no sleep, you know the drill - but hopefully they are only the kind the nice Dr. gives us. If beer is a drug, then “just say YES to drugs” Honestly, we have been very lucky over the years with not having much a problem with this, but it’s too funny because in the past when there has been a hint, they rat each other out - end of problem. We have a unique crew with most of us being here for years and that helps I think.

We havent begun up here yet, but expect some early whites tomorrow, maybe a small lot of pinot noir on Saturday/Sunday

Pants are not optional here most days - they have threatened to wear dresses one day, or all show up in tuxes on the crush pad - God help me survive this PLEASE
Good luck guys - Happy Harvest

I need to talk them into hooking up our sound system to my computer- I would love to be able to listen to Pandora in the winery- my quick mix has a ton of bands on it, and no one genre gets stale that way.

Fantastic album!

Clash, Bowie, Hendrix, SRV, Miles Davis, Nina Simone, Crystal Method, Pumpkins, Cesaria Evora, Beatles, lots of Afro/Cuban/Brazilian/etc stuff that isn’t cool enough for Roberto I’m sure.

Hip Hop doesn’t last long around here but only one real fan.

Radiohead or Coldplay will get your CD or ipod run over with a forklift and might get your fire depending on which song we have to listen to 15 seconds of.

Outstanding!

I would assume then that I shouldn’t be sending you the Coldplay/Jay-Z mixtape.
