I’ve been buying and drinking Côtes du Rhône red wines since almost the beginning of my wine journey, so almost 40 years now. When I first started buying them they were pretty scarce in my “local” market (just about none in Cheyenne - which really hasn’t changed much, and only a small handful in Fort Collins) and my one “go to” retail source was the Boulder Liquor Mart, where they regularly stocked a dozen or so different producers. Over the decades that changed, and now I can regularly find a dozen or so different producers at two of the Fort Collins shops I like to hit. And they sell, year in and year out. Certain producers will be regularly stocked for a number of vintages, but those shops regularly find “new” producers to rotate into the selection. So, best advice I could give anyone is . . . find a wine shop that appreciates just how good and an incredible bargain these wines are, and support that shop. ![]()
Clos des Brusquieres “Caussans” -100% Grenache -
actually labelled as a Vin de Table (but grown just outside Chateauneuf-du-Pape) ’
I’m not sure if they even export this, but a fine CdRh a bit in the desTours- style - 10 € at the domaine
DOMAINE DE LA GRANDS BOIS -
They have four cuvees -
Côtes-du-Rhône Villages “Gabrielle”
Rasteau “Cuvée Marc”
Cairanne “Maximilien”
Côtes-du-Rhône “Philippine”
These are really elegant, polished Cotes du Rhones.
My last of the 2020s this evening.
Really nice wine. It may be a while before I head back down to Fort Collins to load up on a case or two of Southern Rhone wines, but I would not hesitate to pick up a few more of these. ![]()
I think polished is a perfect descriptor for these. Parker and WS usually gives good scores. I bought a bunch of '07s and tried aging a few. I liked the “Marc” best and it seemed to age well. They just don’t have any of the CdR funk like Pegau’s Plan de Pegau or their other CdR cuvees which I adore.
I used to buy these wines regularly. They provided a lot of pleasure. Sadly, I have not seen them in the local stores in quite some time.
Same is true of the Pesquie Terrasses. I drank cases of that wine over a number of years. Was $15 a bottle, if memory serves.
It’s funny Greg, I tend to like the more polished styles. Never been much for the CdR funk. Like the fruit bright and precise.
I’ve never had (or even seen) their Côtes du Rhône, but have always enjoyed their base Chateauneuf du Pape.
