Shifflett.
And Mancini and Papera
It’s tough to come up with one - especially if you want to take into account multiple varieties . . .
I think Bien Nacido should be in the mix for that reason; perhaps Brousseau eventually; Hudson and Hyde
Cheers
Lewelling Ranch/Wight Vineyard.
Have a soft spot for Lytton Springs.
Good memories there of my first trip to Sonoma.
Mark,
Thanks for including Ishi Pishi Ranch. I too think it is outstanding. Happy to have Briceland Mentioned in the thread as well.
The question asked was what is your favorite vineyard not what is your favorite wine. For me it is the Peay Vineyard which is the coolest and most beautiful spot Ive ever been to a vineyard. The wines are very good also but I just love visiting that vineyard property
Eisele, although I have not had one since the change from Araujo. The Phelps and Araujo versions were consistently stellar.
It’s still going strong! People at my offsite storage were talking about how great the Ridge Eisele is; I hope I get to taste that someday.
Another vote for Tench
A TIE for me - Eisele Vineyard and To Kalon
Just one?
I would have to list at least 25.
The choice of Evangelho illustrates a point. A vineyard can be nowheresville and then somebody ‘discovers’ it, makes a wine with techniques appropriate to the vineyard and suddenly you have world class terroir.
What was Lyttton Springs before Ridge got their hands on it?? There are all sorts of vineyards in Sonoma County that became famous when the right winemaker made wine with it.
It’s close between Backus and Jasud. Macdonald right there as well.
Pick one. When I recap, I’ll include only the first vineyard named. The call of the question was to state your ONE favorite California vineyard. Like baseball, there are no ties.
I will take Backus.
Calarcadia
I suppose I would vote for Rosellas. It’s not the best (MacDonald) but it is my personal favorite everything considered, notably including price and variety of varieties.
Love Rosellas, as well. Thing I like about Rosellas is that you can see so many different expressions of the fruit across different winemakers. I did a horizontal with the 2004 (iirc) and found 16 different releases to include. August West came out on top, but man there was a wide range of expressions.
Silver Eagle
Can’t decide between Martha’s and the Inglenook/JJ Cohn Vineyard in Rutherford
