Faux Shake Shack Burgers: My First Attempt

I’m about to grind the meat for faux Shake Shack Burgers. Wish me luck! Notes to follow. Anybody else tried this?

Have not tried it but I’d be interested in hearing all about your meat blend & grind.

Do you ship? [grin.gif]

Being in France for the last 2+ weeks, I would really, really, really enjoy a burger.

Steak hachette et pomme frites?

Michael, I really hope you’re not looking for sympathy. [scratch.gif]

No, not looking for that…but there is something about a great burger that I have missed. It will be one of the first meals once I get back.

So how did it turn out? From your post, I was inspired to do this last night…everyone was quite impressed!

They were excellent; though not quite true Shake Shack burgers. As a test, I served one to our doorman in Chicago, who has never had a Shack burger. “That’s the best hamburger I’ve ever eaten” he said. On the other hand, Craig, my partner, who is a Shake Shack officianado said, “This is a very good hamburger, but its not a Shack burger.”

The sauce was a bit too spicy, and we couldn’t get the real Martin’s potato rolls here in Chicago. I’ll bring them back from NYC when I come home from work next time.

So…we still have to tweak it a bit for it to be a real Shack burger, but it was pretty damned good.

I emailed Danny Meyer tonight and told him he’s opening Shacks so many places (latest news is Miami) that he should open up one in Chicago!

I haven’t had any burgers or Popeye’s since you’ve been gone . . . swear.

  1. I don’t believe that

  2. What about J.R.'s? You been poaching in on my biscuits and gravy?
