I paid all of $13 bucks for this little whopper.
Packs a lot of flavor and vibe for such low fare.
Came home after a very fast Wednesday night group ride - a ride that generally rips out my entrails - and my wife was grilling burgers with blue cheese. Had a massive oaky cab yesterday (not what I expected), and was looking for something with lift and cut tonight. Tough to drink something heavy after a big workout. Need more of a thirst quencher. The Fessy was the first thing that caught my eye when I opened up the wine fridge. I bought split case of the Fessy Moulin-à-Vent and Brouilly, but had not tried either.
Fantastic dusty nose with tart red fruits and white pepper. Great delineation on the nose. Lots of acidity and verve. Tart currants and raspberries. Some smoke and minerals. Finish a bit clipped. Quite a nice little wine, and a great quaffer on the cheap. I normally limit myself to 2 glasses after the Wednesday ride; on my 3rd right now! (89 pts.)
Thanks for the note.
I agree its a very nice wine. I didn’t find it little though. It was pretty intense, ripe and concentrated when I tried it. For my tastes a big step up from a quaffer. But it could be closing down now and need a bunch of air.
How are your weight loss goals going Robert? I remember you talking about riding goals a while back. I am trying to get my ass back on bike as well.
The wine sounds great, I have been having great luck with the 09’s across the board.
Moving well, Tom, thanks. Working with a weight trainer twice weekly starting first of December and have picked up my bike miles considerably. Dropped a net of 5 pounds so far without dieting (just cut some sweets out). Feel that I’ve added some lean muscle from the gym - my trainer is abusing me. Starting to feel the juice on the bike again. I’m at 200 right now looking to get back to 195.
Yea, I’m digging these '09s, but have stashed most of them away. This one was more of a daily drinker. Good stuff.
This is an excellent go-to wine. For some reason one of the few Beaujoulais Cru producers that are distributed in CT.
I’ve seen the '09 Brouilly locally, may have to give it a try (14.59 “on sale” however, so not quite the steal)
I’ll pop the Brouilly next week. B21 in Florida has the Fessy Moulin-à-Vent, Brouilly and Morgon for $12.99. Not sure where you are located.
Robert -
the 2009 Fleurie and Morgon were my favorites from Fessy. both were powerful but impressively balanced. the MaV, Brouilly and Village were a hair behind those two for me.
My local guy just got the Morgon. Will check it out. Thanks!
Drinking the Brouilly right now. Just a touch behind the MaV, but again, a damn fine wine and crazy value.
The Brouilly just blew my mind on day 3. Way too primary day 1, sweet on day 2, then viola, day 3, this puppy opened up big time. No formal notes, but lots of balsamic, minerals, meal and spicey fruit. Paired beautifully with a scratch Frittata. (89-90 pts.)
Ridiculous value for $12.99
I love how this producer puts out such quality wines for so little $. I’m looking forward to trying the 2009 Morgon soon. I drank a 2007 Fessy MaV I not too long ago, and it was delicious, especially for $12!
