Thought I’d start a thread here for a couple of reasons:
-
For those who don’t know this event, it’s a fundraiser that our very own @Frank_Murray_III and his wife Jill have hosted at their house for 20 YEARS now! It’s benefactor is Laura’s House, a refuge for families that are directly affected by domestic violence right in the heart of Orange County. They not only provide a safe haven for those seeking emergency housing, but also provide legal services and more - and conduct educational workshops in local schools to help educate children about these issues.
-
Via ticket sales, a fantastic silent auction and a very generous benefactor, the event raised over $50K this past Sunday with over 110 people present and over 140 wines poured throughout the house, donated by 40 wineries, many of which are noted here on WB on a regular basis. It’s estimated that the event has now raised most likely over $800K for Laura’s House altogether . . .
-
Many from the WB community have been generous supporters and contributors to this event, including some like Brian Loring, for each of the 20 years the event has been held.
I’m sure that there are many regulars here who were in attendance that may or may not post their notes on the event, but figured I’d get it started . . . and note that this is a BYO Food as well, and the barbecue was expertly manned by @Brian_Tuite all afternoon!
Favorite bites - everyhing that @Carrie_Morgan personally brought with her (!!!) and the ever-present candied pork belly and chocolate covered bacon provided by @Brian_Bohr and his wife Jennifer.
Favorite wines - well, not really ‘favorite’ but ones that stood out:
Tyler Chardonnay
Kutch Chardonnays
Some crazy Chenin Blanc Pet Nat (
)
Loring Chadonnays
Tatomer Gruner and Riesling
Tyler Pinot
Violin Pinots
Delmore Syrah
Holus Bolus Syrah
Matthiason Cab
Again, there were SOOO many other wines - but I spent more time simply taking in the seriousness and the magic of the day and spending quality time talking with folks I don’t see in person often that I just didn’t have the time to spend thinking too much about the wines - though I’m sure MANY others did and will post here.
Thanks again to Frank and Jill and all who supported - truly one of my favorite afternoons all year long - and one of the most impactful as well.
Cheers
