Falltacular 2026 - Wowza!

Thought I’d start a thread here for a couple of reasons:

  1. For those who don’t know this event, it’s a fundraiser that our very own @Frank_Murray_III and his wife Jill have hosted at their house for 20 YEARS now! It’s benefactor is Laura’s House, a refuge for families that are directly affected by domestic violence right in the heart of Orange County. They not only provide a safe haven for those seeking emergency housing, but also provide legal services and more - and conduct educational workshops in local schools to help educate children about these issues.

  2. Via ticket sales, a fantastic silent auction and a very generous benefactor, the event raised over $50K this past Sunday with over 110 people present and over 140 wines poured throughout the house, donated by 40 wineries, many of which are noted here on WB on a regular basis. It’s estimated that the event has now raised most likely over $800K for Laura’s House altogether . . .

  3. Many from the WB community have been generous supporters and contributors to this event, including some like Brian Loring, for each of the 20 years the event has been held.

I’m sure that there are many regulars here who were in attendance that may or may not post their notes on the event, but figured I’d get it started . . . and note that this is a BYO Food as well, and the barbecue was expertly manned by @Brian_Tuite all afternoon!

Favorite bites - everyhing that @Carrie_Morgan personally brought with her (!!!) and the ever-present candied pork belly and chocolate covered bacon provided by @Brian_Bohr and his wife Jennifer.

Favorite wines - well, not really ‘favorite’ but ones that stood out:

Tyler Chardonnay
Kutch Chardonnays
Some crazy Chenin Blanc Pet Nat ( :innocent:)
Loring Chadonnays
Tatomer Gruner and Riesling
Tyler Pinot
Violin Pinots
Delmore Syrah
Holus Bolus Syrah
Matthiason Cab

Again, there were SOOO many other wines - but I spent more time simply taking in the seriousness and the magic of the day and spending quality time talking with folks I don’t see in person often that I just didn’t have the time to spend thinking too much about the wines - though I’m sure MANY others did and will post here.

Thanks again to Frank and Jill and all who supported - truly one of my favorite afternoons all year long - and one of the most impactful as well.

Cheers

One can’t praise @Frank_Murray_III (and all of those who help in this yearly adventure) too highly. Hard work for a great cause. Well done, again.

Yep, and he’s too damn humble about it as well

Fun weekend. Serious work for a serious cause that really warms the heart when you see it all come together.

From taking over Basanti Indian Restaurant on Friday night to Room 126 at the Marina Shores to an incredible event Saturday at FMIII’s it was a non-stop weekend.

It was great to see all the new participants there who are really the future if the event. I picked up 2 newbies, @Carrie_Morgan and @Nola_Palomar, at the airport Friday. I think they’ll be back again.

Was a long afternoon behind the grill Saturday but I got everything cooked and kept the hungry masses from rebelling. 5lbs of Sausages, 3-4lbs of Korean BBQ Short Ribs, 4lbs of wagyu sliders, 4lb tri-tip, Wagyu Tri-Tip steaks, 3lbs of Wagyu Striploin Medallions, Marrow Bones, 4lbs of hanger steaks, 2lbs of Iberico hangers, 4lbs of marinated chicken breast pieces, 1lb + of fresh Prawns, Carne Asada Skirt Steak, 3lbs of Lamb Chops, did I miss anything Carrie? Carrie was a champ by my side slicing everything. Nola was there as well helping assembling sliders and plating meats.
EDIT: @Uli_K brought Picanha as well!

Lots of great wine, lots of auction items. So much that some went with just a single bid. But in the end it’s the people that make this event what it is. The donors, the attendees but most of all the hosts. My hat’s off to @Frank_Murray_III and Jill for their dedication to the cause and ability to bring people from all walks of life together for a day full of love.

A few pics but there are many more from others cameras.

Not many note takers this year.

Before I was called for duty Chris Silk and I ran through all the wines upstairs, CS/ BDX stuff. Brian Loring was dropping off his stuff so the 3 of us chatted away.

I did not make it to the front room so no Rhone for me. Shame.

Upstairs - lots of interesting things. Grayscale Merlot, Loring Napa Cab, William & Mary, Riverain, and another new one that escapes me now.

Pinot Table - Tyler LaRincoda, Violin (not sure which one), Kutch (always a favorite), and a handful of others. This table is always STACKED.

Outside - Larry’s Pet Nat Chenin, a couple of newbie chards which I can’t remember, and someone poured me a rosè so must have been Stars+Dust, Tercero or Kutch. The chardonnay lineup looked extraordinarily strong based on labels. Oh, a Durrell was excellent.

I gotta open a Kutch wine tonight!

Fantasy Football Influencer @Nola_Palomar showed up? What an Orange County Flex :flexed_biceps:

Thank you for documenting all this Joy & Purpose with us. As to Liturgical promotions, there’s this guy from Chicago…

Yeah, Nola made out. Not sure if she and Carrie made it home. Really nice to spent time with them. Old friends who have never met. LOL

Funny story, Nola says “look at this picture from yesterday”. Pulls out her phone and it’s a selfie of her and Todd in the club at DFW, they were passing in opposite directions.

Thank you to everyone who sent wine for the auction (such as David and Brian), as well as those who attended like Brian and Alan (who both made a long drive or put us in an existing trip to be here). Or Brig for working the front door and checking people in, and Brian for driving the BBQ, and guys like Larry, who make the drive and show up both as a winery guy, and also a devoted advocate. Larry has been at it for 19 years. Brian Loring and Ed Kurtzman only longer, for all 20 years.

There are too many to thank. New folks like Carrie being here for the first time, and Nola too. Both I had never met. Other new people like Liz from McPrice Myers in Paso, or Gabe Fabela from Tyler up in SBC. For the work that Phil Carpenter did to encourage nearly 10 new wineries to join this year, along with the help of Chris Towt who referred several new ones, along with Steve Anderson and Eldon Gath, too.

Again, the list to thank is long and I will disrespect someone if I keep typing names and forget someone important in the process.

We do this work because we want to serve others. It’s a privilege to serve, and be trusted for 2 decades and build that integrity that glues people to come with me, come with others, to sustain this event for that long. This is a group effort, a success driven by many to stick with it, and serve Laura’s House and their work to confront DV–the injuries, fear, legal challenges and living and counseling needs that people who flee must find new hope to start over.

All of you have given people hope who we will never meet, and while we have heard some horrific stories and met those survivors over the years that presented at the event, most all of the people we help we will never know. But do know one powerful thing–everyone’s effort, the wineries sending wine, and all of the support has changed people and families and helped them start over. For that, thank you.

Should you wish to learn more about Laura’s House, you can click here: https://laurashouse.org. We will hold Falltacular 2027 next February. Should you want to be part of next year, we welcome you and we hope you will make the time to join us.

Incredible event for a most worthy cause, well done everyone. Awesome photos love seeing the faces!

Now, I’m sure I’m an idiot here but why the name Falltacular?

Thanks

Next edition, when you announce the date: I shall be sure to immediately schedule a trip to D.C. for that weekend. Neal is normally a sedentary creature, but boy if he doesn’t make plans with legitimate alacrity when he’s fleeing NoVa to escape an invitation from me :man_running:

Sedentary? Why, I am a blur, you whippersnapper! A blaze of activity! You just can’t keep up!
