FALLTACULAR 2025 - Saturday, March 15th @ my house in South OC, CA

FALLTACULAR 2025. This weekend I gave thought to the date and we kicked it around with some people. February has hurt a # of people in the past, who continue to find it hard to attend. I want to try and fix that for this coming year, and I will move the event further out by a few weeks, holding it on SATURDAY, MARCH 15th. Some of you will point out that this is St Patrick’s Day weekend, and I don’t wish to disturb your plans for that event. Forgive me if that happens but trying to make this work for everyone and this is the best winter Saturday we could find.

I will start selling tickets probably after XMAS, maybe just after the year begins so nothing you need to do now but jot the date down.

Thank you everyone.

Everyone, happy new year. I’ve been getting some questions about when we’re gonna sell tickets, etc. Thank you for the prompts, as I owe everyone an update.

I am meeting with the Laura’s House team in about 10 days to firm up everything, and I wanted to wait until after that meeting to start selling tickets. In part, I want to affirm a few details around how to pay with credit card, as some of you might like that option, along with how we track who has paid through that method. So, let me do the meeting and then you should expect we will sell tickets NLT the end of this month.

Thanks for being patient, we’ll get going soon.

Everyone, good morning. And to those affected by the fires this month, from Jill and I, and everyone else who has put their thoughts and efforts into helping, we’re here to support you.

Some of you know people affected, some of those same people are Falltacular attendees and devoted supporters, who have had their lives turned upside down by what’s happened. It’s likely some of you know people who have been impacted too, some devastated by the loss of their homes and much of their life around them.

I want to publicly thank @CFu , who through his leadership efforts and coordination, helped raise through Wine Berserkers almost $140,000 this past week. This money is already being donated to the fire relief efforts. He helped communicate the how/why/when of the fundraiser, and has made the lives of those affected perhaps a little bit brighter. Charlie, thank you for those efforts, to serve others as you have. This is leadership.

Concerning Falltacular we are going to proceed, although we wanted to have the fire relief and efforts be in focus. Next week, I will get going on efforts to launch our event, which is being held here at my house as usual on Saturday, March 15th. I will start the ticketing process, explain how to pay (with credit cards this year, included). I will also put out info pertinent to the Friday, March 14th BYOB dinner. You folks will decide if Friday will occur or not, and I will explain that, too. Silent auction info, volunteer info, etc.

Right now is just a tough time for many, and it will take a lot more time to bring people’s lives back. Fires, domestic violence, all of it takes a toll on our community. It has, it will continue unless we fight back and whatever you decide to do with how you support those in need, just do something. Like Charlie has done, like you all have done with Falltacular since 2006.

God bless everyone affected and I will be back next week with the March event information.

Hello everyone. On behalf of Jill and I, we want to again wish our best to those affected by the fires. For those of us who have helped and supported the victims, please continue to show and give that support. They need us right now, and we continue to be with them.

I want to announce our 19th year of Falltacular. We’ve been blessed this many years with your help, and the support of the winemaker community, to raise money for our charity, www.laurashouse.org. The vision and goal for Falltacular has always been and for as long as we’re fortunate to do this work, we will battle with them against domestic violence, for the victims of violence, to defend them and restore their lives through legal support, education and a new start. This is our collective goal.

Many of you have been with us since the beginning, some just new to the event last year. The same for our winery partners. Whatever your tenure, we welcome you to attend on March 15th. For now, to message the next few steps in a simple fashion, it’s time to buy tickets and decide the Friday BYOB dinner.

To buy tickets to the Saturday event, you are now welcome to pay with credit card, and for the ease of administration, we encourage this method of payment. Each ticket will cost $125 and you can buy as many as you want. Just click here. There will be a dropdown called “My donation is for *” allowing you to select ‘Falltacular’. As you complete payment, there is a small bubble option for “Increase My Impact”, which allows you to cover the credit card transaction fee. This ensures the entire amount of your credit card donation goes to Laura’s House. I ask that you cover this fee to help us raise the maximum we can. Once you pay, your name and amount of tickets is added to a list, which I will receive, track and publish. Can you pay by check? Yes, you still can simply mail a check to Laura’s House in Alison Viejo, CA for the amount of your tickets. They will inform me if checks arrive, and I will add your tickets to the paid list.

The other thing I want to announce is whether we have the Friday BYOB dinner or not. (Should you not be interested in the dinner, you can simply skip the rest of this message.). For Friday dinner details, please read on…

For the Friday dinner, it’s been a Falltacular tradition. We’ve done Brick, Maison, Luciana’s, etc.–it’s how we had traditionally kicked off Falltacular, what had been in the past almost 80 of you on our biggest Friday nights. Yet for the past few years, I have seen attendance drop to about 40-45 paid, and I’ve heard mixed feedback that the venue is too crowded, or the food wasn’t quite right, etc.

Considering that feedback, I had given thought to just letting you all dine where you wanted yet I know this is an important kick-off for some of you. So, my pursuit is to balance doing this right, both for your joy and finding a great restaurant partner IF interest exists to do it.

To determine if the Friday dinner is going to be held, let me first show you the options and the minimum spend/attendance commitment that is tied with each.

LUCIANA’S Dana Point:

· The Outdoor Patio (by the front door). $3,250 (incl tax and tip) minimum. For comfortable spacing, (last year was 40 and I heard it was too tight) I’d recommend we limit to 35 people. This equates to $90-95 per person, with 35 people committed.
· The elevated Piazza (on the corner). $5,200 (incl tax and tip). To keep the price similar to the Outdoor Patio, we will need at least 55 people paid.

THE DOHENY CAFÉ Dana Point (the old Maison location, run still be Danielle of Maison):

· For the space, it’s 40 a person minimum. The price for credit card is $105 all-in, or $95 for cash.

So, how do we decide go/no-go for Friday? Simple. Please reply to me here and tell me how many people and for which choice. It’s a verbal commitment but consider carefully please because I will use the replies to conclude a decision. After my message here runs for several days, I will review the replies. Should we get enough people for one of the options, then I will ask for money and lock the restaurant choice that has been chosen.

If we don’t get sufficient verbal interest for one of the choices, then I will come back to you and tell you that, and then let you make informal plans with each other as you wish for Friday. You’d be welcome to dine at Luciana’s, the new Maison, even Basanti in San Juan or anything else locally you would want to arrange.

OK, that’s the plan. Please reply with verbal commitments if you are interested.

That’s it for now. More details to follow but for this moment, let’s get the Saturday ticketing completed and a decision about the Friday dinner made.

Thank you Frank.

I appreciate all you do for Laura’s House. Not only for raising significant $ums for the organziation - but also awareness of the need.
I will be joined by my son-in-law.
Donation Made. See you on March 15th.

Wonderful, Thomas. We will be pumped to see you make the long trip and do this with us yet again!

In for 3, buddy. Bringing the boss and my father-in-law

Thank you. I appreciate your support, both here and in-person for so many years, Todd.

In for 2 Frank!
Doheny is my restaurant choice.

Edit: If anyone needs a spot for Saturday I have an extra, my Wife can’t make the trip this year.

I am logging the interest for Friday dinner and keeping track. We’ll make a decision on that sooner than later so that if we don’t get the minimum attendance for one of my options, you would still have time to make your own Friday dinner plans around town.

We got a day 1 report this morning of 29 tickets sold. This is wonderful news and I feel grateful that we can continue to bring people to this cause, to the Laura’s House efforts. Over $4000.

And let me say this again as I want this to be clear and transparent. We are grateful you want to support Falltacular and yet we have many folks just an hour north of here who went through devastation this month. So many people need help from others right now. Whatever you decide to do about supporting need right now, please, do something. We can’t fight evil and we can’t promote empathy and support when we feel divided. Follow your heart and help where your heart is.

In for two tickets. Glad to attend again after missing last year due to travel!

Will try to follow up ref Friday in the next week or so. We have always loved the Friday event, but trying to clear that date at the moment.

Cheers!

Steve, glad to have you back. For Friday, just keep in mind that an organized dinner might not occur but if you are freed up for it, then you’d have the opportunity to dine wherever various groups might be doing something on their own. Just alert me once you have the date free and any choice you might have regarding the 2 locations I listed.

@larry_schaffer As always, glad you are also with us another year. Both you and Steve have helped build this event. It’s advocacy and generosity that keeps this going.

Paid and coming. Beware the Sweater! Also fully onboard for a Friday dinner wherever it may happen. Thank you Frank, for everything you and Jill do, and most of all for your enormous heart and care for all of us, especially all our LA friends right now.

Thank you, Mike.

Good morning everyone. As an update, we have 39 paid for Saturday as of yesterday’s report. That is terrific news and is the support we need to build towards filling up the house. Please purchase your tickets via credit card or mail a check. You can pay via credit card through the Laura’s House website and select the dropdown for Falltacular before you submit your payment. Or you can mail a check to their address in Aliso Viejo, made out to Laura’s House. Tickets are $125, buy as many as you like!

Concerning the Friday dinner, we have 17 people interested. That is 50% of what we need for the Luciana’s patio, and just over 40% of what is needed to cover the Doheny Cafe buyout. If you have interest in attending the dinner, I need to hear from you so I can make an accurate view about whether there is sufficient support to organize it.

Hi Frank. I just paid this morning. As for the Friday dinner, I’m fine with either location. Looking forward to seeing you and everybody at this great event.

Hey Glenn…yep I got your interest for the Friday dinner. And thank you for supporting the main event again, too. You’re one of our long timers!

If you are planning to come to the Friday Dinner please confirm ASAP. We are short of our minimum commitment. We need to sweep the interest and find out who remains to tell me. Below is what I have collected from both here and via Facebook. We need to at least double these numbers of people if Friday is going to be an organized event.

Darren D–either 1

Arnie and Lisa–either 2
