Erin go Beaujolais!

I’m in the Wild West Coast of Ireland. Celebrating my wife getting her Irish citizenship and sneaking in some surfing and golf.

Wound up in Ennis for a traditional music festival, or fleadh in Irish.

I have burned out on fish and chips, no matter how deftly fried. And pints of Guinness. For the time being …

I needed wine.

So we wound up in a random bistro late at night. I’m traveling with wine civilians and non-comms. $75 for a bottle of wine is crazy making.

I order a wild duck dish and scan the red wine list. A familiar name beckons: Chermette (Vissoux).

God bless this producer. Their Beaujolais are so delicious and precise. And so affordably priced. And no carbonic fizz or horsey brett.

This 2022 Fleurie Poncie was just soft, easygoing, juicy and savory. Blackberry and cobblestones. Delicious.

Why do I not drink more of their wines?

Many vintages and cases of this vineyard/producer have passed through me; the 2005 I will never forget.
But I have found the alcohols moving up a bit so I’m not as big on them lately.

I hear it’s pretty good there. They got decent rentals?

Citizenship in Ireland or US? Just curious as my wife is supposed to eligible for Irish citizenship and I’m badgering her to go for it.

We were on the Old Sod once, 40 years ago. County Clare, where her father hailed from. The stretch of coast from Liscannor down to Loop Head was pretty awesome.

We were able to find some epoxy longboards in Bonduran and Dingle. Surprisingly water wasn’t freezing and some clean surf.

My wife got her Irish citizenship. Grandparents on both sides born in Ireland. It did require a bunch of paperwork and record searching. Nice perk for my kids if they ever want to seek EU citizenship!

We went on a wine trip to Sicily a few years ago and some people were doing that in Italy as well.

Agree on all fronts. I think the reason is that something else always distracts!

I recently returned to their wines after more than a decade of having forgotten about them.

Yup.

I used to drink a ton of it when a local retailer carried it. Was always a winner. Need to pop back in.
