Last night we went to Nostrani for the beginning of their celebration of the 10th annniversary of their opening in Santa Fe as ‘rociada’, a French restaurant. This week they’re having a French menu with a French Wine List. We decided to go on opening night to check it out and see if we wanted to go back again later in the week. They were essentially full tonight.
We got our sparkling water and ordered a 2007 Domaine Tempier Rosé, to have with our starters of Steak Tartare for Carollee and Brandade & Toast Points for me. Eric came over an talked us into a 2004 Morey Blanc Auxey-Duresses. it was full-bodied, rich spicy fruit, and good acidity; it went well with both the Tartare and the Brandade.
By the time we had finished our starters, we had decided on our entrées, Carollee gave Nelli the chance to decide between the Duck breast with Duck Confit Ravioli and the Skate Wing with Noisette Sauce; while I had the Veal Cheeks with Turnips and Madeira Sauce. We also ordered a 2005 Domaine Michel & Johanna Ecard Savigny-le-Beaune ‘Le Gravains’. It was rich, bright red fruit and very good with both Carollee’s Skate Wing and my rich veal cheeks.
Then we decided to share a dessert, poached pears with cream and a tasty tuile. Eric brought out a 375ml of 2006 Domain Weinbach Clos St. Catherine Riesling Schlossberg. Unfortunate it wasn’t a Vendage Tardive as Eric thought, but a very dry ‘regular’ Alsatian Riesling. It was a ltttle dry for the pear alone, but marginally ok with enough cream and a bite of tuile.
After all that we headed home.
