Remembrance of drinks past.
Perhaps consider getting rid of the slots?
Iām playing innings, Iāll let you know how it plays out.
Post of the year.
Iām more superannuated than most around here and I have no idea how the past 25+ years here and on Squiresā Board flew past so quickly. But they did.
Two years ago, I sold off a bunch of wines that I had no or not much interest in drinking. Next week, Chambers Street is picking up another bunch of wines, mostly mature, that I have great interest in drinking, but wonāt have time to drink.
Sobering and liberating; I somehow passed the point of collecting and keeping all kinds of stuff, not only wine, for future use, and am now at the point of paring all of my possessions. The fourth quarter, indeed.
He did. And I even had to google the definition of a word!
Happy Fatherās Day, Neal! And to all dads here.
Wonderfully said. Iām in the same boat except Iād sworn that I would buy Kobayashi if ever offered any. I thought Iād read about years on the waiting list. Then last nightā¦
Iām in the same boat but find it hard to apply the brakesāthe 40+ year passion of exploring and learning is hard to break. My wine heroāthe wine critic Andre Simonādied with one bottle left in his cellar. Me, Iāll be ordering wine on my phone as they administer the Jewish equivalents of last rites.
But itās only champagne and cheap reds for the wife. But thereās so much champagne!
I am with you here. Why exactly do we bother with the Monthly Inventory Reduction thread?
Hmmm⦠sin, ask for penance, sin, ask for penance. Canāt quite remember where Iāve seen this before?
I guess it raises the question about practical cellar size. Iām mostly offsite and itās still and issue b/c empty space = more $ storage per bottle. Iāll probably downsize at some point. But, re: #2 - I always thought that was one of the beauties of collecting rare wine. Most of us can (and should) open an epic bottle of wine on a random weekday for no reason other than that we can, have it and feel like it. You might be the only person on the planet sampling something like a 2016 KE Rhad, Beta cab etc on any given day.
Love this. Poignantly well put.
Totally get it. I am off the buying train except for Champagne/sparkling for my wife!
Is there a āsubannuatedā?
Never me. Too Elote.
You are so corny!
Waiting for god post
Iāve got a case of Vintage Ports, '16s and '17s that have a note saying to drink at my wake. My grandson (9) knows that he is responsible for making that happen. And yes, there will be A LOT of wines to deal with. No Empty Slots yet.
Good job. Bonus points for the Mic Collinās avatar. Is that The Dirtbombs era?
Save your empties and put them in those slots.
