Empty slots = death

Remembrance of drinks past.

Perhaps consider getting rid of the slots?

I’m playing innings, I’ll let you know how it plays out.

Post of the year.

I’m more superannuated than most around here and I have no idea how the past 25+ years here and on Squires’ Board flew past so quickly. But they did.

Two years ago, I sold off a bunch of wines that I had no or not much interest in drinking. Next week, Chambers Street is picking up another bunch of wines, mostly mature, that I have great interest in drinking, but won’t have time to drink.

Sobering and liberating; I somehow passed the point of collecting and keeping all kinds of stuff, not only wine, for future use, and am now at the point of paring all of my possessions. The fourth quarter, indeed.

He did. And I even had to google the definition of a word!

Happy Father’s Day, Neal! And to all dads here.

Wonderfully said. I’m in the same boat except I’d sworn that I would buy Kobayashi if ever offered any. I thought I’d read about years on the waiting list. Then last night…

I’m in the same boat but find it hard to apply the brakes—the 40+ year passion of exploring and learning is hard to break. My wine hero—the wine critic Andre Simon—died with one bottle left in his cellar. Me, I’ll be ordering wine on my phone as they administer the Jewish equivalents of last rites.

But it’s only champagne and cheap reds for the wife. But there’s so much champagne!

I am with you here. Why exactly do we bother with the Monthly Inventory Reduction thread?

Hmmm… sin, ask for penance, sin, ask for penance. Can’t quite remember where I’ve seen this before?

I guess it raises the question about practical cellar size. I’m mostly offsite and it’s still and issue b/c empty space = more $ storage per bottle. I’ll probably downsize at some point. But, re: #2 - I always thought that was one of the beauties of collecting rare wine. Most of us can (and should) open an epic bottle of wine on a random weekday for no reason other than that we can, have it and feel like it. You might be the only person on the planet sampling something like a 2016 KE Rhad, Beta cab etc on any given day.

Totally get it. I am off the buying train except for Champagne/sparkling for my wife!

Is there a ā€œsubannuatedā€?

Never me. Too Elote.

You are so corny!

Waiting for god post

I’ve got a case of Vintage Ports, '16s and '17s that have a note saying to drink at my wake. My grandson (9) knows that he is responsible for making that happen. And yes, there will be A LOT of wines to deal with. No Empty Slots yet.

Good job. Bonus points for the Mic Collin’s avatar. Is that The Dirtbombs era?

Save your empties and put them in those slots.
