Emidio Pepe question and recent Konstantin Baum feature

I agree that he has great content, hence why I was watching. Agree with @ Chris_Crutchfield that probably he just decided to go with it for the sake of filming. He has to get content out, and if this is his only bottle, and it did indeed taste better than it looked, maybe he decided to just roll with it. Still probably should have mentioned it could have been an off bottle. Glad you all agree with me though that the wine looked off, I was listening to his commentary and thought I was missing something.

If it wasn’t the expected style, some people might call that Selosse faulty as well if it was their first time trying it, without knowing the story in advance.

Well, in this instance he didn’t know what he didn’t know. I find that publishing a misinformation video by an ‘expert’ to be disqualifying. Obviously, your mileage varies.

There are many comments to the video pointing out that the wine was clearly oxed. Why not clean up the video, delete it, or follow up after gaining a bit of knowledge?

Agree to disagree, I suppose. A lot of white burg videos and reviews would have to come down if that were a hard and fast rule  my feeling is that faults are part of wine, and the more evidence out there of it tells me something useful about the risks of certain producers’ winemaking choices.

What use is an MW if the MW can’t tell that a nine year old brown white wine is oxidized? No use to me.

The color really wasn’t that different between the Selosse and the Pepe. Not saying the Pepe wasn’t flawed (likely was), but I could see how tasting these immediately back to back might go as it did.

Picture 2: Pepe

And here we are… a Zapruder-esque dissection of the color of a wine in a YouTube influencer’s video!

I think Konstantin Baum is obviously very knowledgeable, but I get the sense he drinks wines that are extremely specific/old school, so I’m not surprised he just doesn’t know what Emidio Pepe is supposed to taste like even though, at this point, Emidio Pepe is commonly found on high end restaurant lists.

I’ve watched a few of his other videos and I found it very surprising that he had never had a bottle of Schaefer Frohlich until last year (it’s the second or third most expensive dry wine in Germany) and in this video he didn’t know that that the disgorgement information on the Selosse is found by using the NFT on the bottle.

That depends on what you make of him. I was not particularly shocked :rofl::rofl:

Haven’t really check out what he up to properly, just jumped to the indicated minute and watch a few seconds. By the sound of it I didn’t miss much it seem.
