Emeritus Vineyards Pinot Heads?

apparently they make two estate Pinot Noir wines: Emeritus RRV from the home ranch on Hwy 116; and Emeritus SC from the William Wesley vineyard on the true Sonoma Coast near Annapolis. both ~ $50 i am interested in the SC wine as Annapolis is way up and out there. folks are the money and talent that was behind Sonoma-Cutrer

I have/had this one…

  • 2005 Emeritus Vineyards Pinot Noir - USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley (8/19/2008)
Starts out with some big stink brett, some spritzy acid…becomes pleasurable after an hour… with wild berry, raspberry, plum fruit, smoked cherries on cedar plank, still some earth funk, slight cola tingle. Reminds me of the funky Loring Garys’, with brighter acidity. Wonderful florals and spice…just needs to come together in balance. Worth seeking out. (92 pts.)

Paid $25 though…WB. [grin.gif]

Also a cool Winelibrarytv with Brice Jones…the owner.http://tv.winelibrary.com/2009/07/31/brice-jones-founder-of-sonoma-cutrer-episode-712/

I jumped on the Emeritus wagon from the beginning with the 2005 William Wesley bottling, and have not been disappointed yet. We’ve drank 4 so far that I ranked anywhere from 88 to 93 points. What gets me the most however is that the best one we’ve had so far was the first one that I popped 3 hours after it came off of the FedEx truck, popped and poured at a BYO. Figure that out. The next bottle was a little disjoined, even after a 4 hour decant 2 months after the first. Waited another 8 months to try one and it was almost as good as the first. Had the wine again last July with similar results to the last. Haven’t had one in over a year now, and haven’t touched the '06’s yet. Blame it on the ecnomy I guess 'cause we’re drinking cheaper wines! Will have to revisit and '05 as well as trying an '06 side by side soon. Guess I better get to offsite to get the '06’s.

Even with the bottles that was less than stellar than the others, I do like what Brice is doing over there, and I hope that this wine continues in the direction it is going. If only I could afford to buy more! Cheers! -mJ
