Emergency passport need - so frustrating RECEIVED!

Sorry they couldn’t help. Makes sense they can’t intervene post-app. Hope you get it worked out!

We had a similar situation last summer and our congressperson’s staff was very helpful, but the process was completely unclear. We had to ask questions and really stay on top of it - hour to hour - to understand what was possible at every turn, and reason through how to best proceed. It’s all possible, even printing a passport after the daily cutoff (!), but takes managing at every step and not giving up.

We’re 2 business days from departing, so I am losing hope quickly. Spoke again to our Rep’s office, they shared info with the case worker, said they’d communicate via email, so to ‘watch that inbox’ - but nothing all day.

She’s going from a child passport to adult, so apparently that is not as easy as a simple renewal, and though I hear of people just showing up at the consulate and getting one, everything I read on the website says that’s not allowed, appointments only (and, of course, there are none for months)

Did you check here: Passport Agencies

I have received a couple of passports that day by scheduling an appointment at a State Dept passport office and having a ticket showing that I was leaving the country. You sit there for a couple of hours and leave with a passport.

You need to check all of the locations around the country for an opening and potentially fly to a location wherever that may be.

Yes, we’ve called every day the last 10 days, waiting on hold from 1 hour to 2.5 hours, and there are NO appointments anywhere in the country

Yes - we showed anyway, at the federal building in Westwood, and managed hour to hour to hour from there. It worked, very luckily at many turns. Nothing to lose, be extra nice with everyone. A security guard ended up being really helpful.

Happy to connnect you w my family members who were directly involved if you are interested.

So we can just show up and hope for the best? I think we have OTHER issues…she left her old passport in Fort Worth (was packing during finals week) as well as birth certificate, though I can get one of those easily from the local courthouse

You’re just figuring that out 2 days before departure? :zipper_mouth_face:

Not really, but the passport was ‘in process’ already, as she presented both those during her interview back in April - I think we will need to submit again if we show up in person and apply from scratch? Can one even apply again when an application is in process?

Whelp I hear Cabo is great in September!

I thought you had to send on her old passport when you got it renewed by mail.

Each time I renewed the old passport went with the application. Just got mine back with the renewal

When I got mine reissued in one day at the federal office building DTLA (the time before last), when I didn’t have enough pages left, I needed to leave off the old one.

Sounds like Todd’s daughter brought it in person - but I thought they would have kept it.

Yes, but this is technically NOT a renewal because when you go from child to adult passport it is treated as a new application

I think your best bet is to go to westwood.

We may risk it and go first thing tomorrow- I’ll pick up a copy of her birth certificate at the records office today

I can’t help but be one of those people , but this is not an emergency passport need. That being said , I hope it works out and you get to go on your vacation. Or just leave her home !!

I’m ‘one of those people’ also - it does not qualify for emergency, and I will be honest about it, yet still hope we get helped. Have to put the effort in, but will be truthful in doing so.

Gee, there were no requirements that it be an emergency when I went to DTLA

A plane leaving that night my was my emergency.

But it seems know that there are two types “life or death” and “urgent travel service”. Neither allow walkins. Maybe it has changed since the pandemic, my experience was 10 years ago

Here’s the link to the feds.
