Well, one reason is that it makes ‘a round, smooth wine with hints of berries and plum’. That right there sealed the deal for me and I have an order in for 5 units.
I’m amazed more that he got millions in venture capital for it!
I agree…what’s the motivation to buy this vs making a barrel at Crushpad. Except for those folks that have some vines in the back yard. Still…
And I loved the part about the coolant leak…Mmmmm.
Oh…duh…the target market here has to be relatives of wine geeks…so they can buy gifts for them.
Yes, it’s certainly ‘kitschy’ and ‘overpriced’ and maybe you can do it cheaper at Crushpad . . .
But with THAT logic, the likes of Sharper Image would never exist!!!
Good marketing goes a long way these days . . . and I like what these guys have done to get their product noticed . . .
And the big difference here is that you do it at your house - not thousands of miles away as it would be for Crushpad clients on the East Coast . . .
Cheers!
“Oh…duh…the target market here has to be relatives of winegeeks…so they can buy gifts for them.”
You’re right, that IS a HUGE market. “Oh…I could NEVER buy him a bottle of wine, he has everything. Do you have wine charms? No, how about brandy pipes?”

I would totally buy this if I could grow wine grapes in my backyard, and if I had a backyard. Why not? People make their own wine in garbage cans.
Honestly, it looks cool. Almost $5k is a bit steep, but smaller ones for $500 or so could be really fun. Maybe you need to be a geek to understand.
It was the $5K part I was talking about. BUT, isn’t most of the fun in making wine, MAKING the wine? This is like those bread machines, it does everything for you, no?
