How soon after eBob scores are published is it kosher to post said scores on this BB? As a nonsubscriber I hope someone here who is an eBob subscriber does so immediately after they get them. As a service to the community…
hum interesting topic. I wonder if his numbers alone are okay but tasting notes aren’t. Can’t be anyworse than a wine store putting up the shelf talkers… except… this is a competing board
It doesn’t matter at all to me. I pay no attention to them, and if you want to post them here, feel free.
It is a good question. Maybe some retailers can chime in on what they think of all of it. I’d be most worried about posting entire tasting and regional notes. Scores get out there in a hurry though.
Strikes me as pilfering intellectual property… not that it isn’t done, doesn’t make it right…
Indeed. I am wondering what, if any, copyright issues there are with such things. Retailers are free to post notes and scores on their websites making them free for anyone to copy down.
if RP, et al files a complaint, i guess you could always remove the offending note?
Anyone can go on my website and grab what’s available there so I am not quite sure of what difference it would make. I think he would have a problems with leaks before the issue is actually released but once it’s out there I don’t think it really matters.
i believe his complete tasting note is copyrighted.
I propose that we don’t post Parker scores and notes, but rather post links to retailer listings of same.
For example:
You could just put up Pobega’s note. He’s a canary in a coal mine…
Isn’t that the ‘canary in the new oak barrel’?
The irony of this thread is . . . to say the least . . . rich.
And a follow up, is it okay to publish Jay Miller’s scores as soon as the plane tickets have been purchased?
Geeze, I’m bad.
I remember hearing Joel McHale of E!'s The Soup discuss a similar issue. Tyra Banks was mad over a clip from her show being shown on The Soup and threatened to sue. McHale made fun of her on the air numerous times and later, on another TV show, explained that he could show only a certain amount of time of each clip they chose. Any more and it violated intellectual property claims. Tyra decided to press on and said mean things about Joel and The Soup to many people . . . bad idea since the show basically lambasts everything on TV. I think they ended up doing a whole clip show on her and it was perfectly legit . . . and hysterical.
In other words . . . I think it is cool to do something like this:
La Conseillante 2005:
“. . . an exquisite bouquet of incense, raspberry jam, kirsch, licorice, and hints of black olives as well as flowers. There is enough stuffing, structure, and density for the wine to evolve for 20-25 years.” 96 points RP

I would think posting more than a few scores or a small snippet would be a violation of copyright law. A lot of stupid or false statement have been made over there about this board. I personally would not like to see anyone’s copyright violated. And in this case, it might give them a leg to stand on when they otherwise wouldn’t have one.
Bad, but funny!
I have to agree with Ken on this one. It is technically a violation of the copyright. Is it actionable sure…if it happened we’d probably just have to delete them and nothing more would happen. Personally to stay above board and not attract any negative attention, I personally wouldn’t post complete notes.
