Which chicken did you order? From what I read, each breed is geared to color preference: one more towards white meat, one is kinda half and half, and one more towards dark.
My wife and I will probably want to go with another couple so we can order two different ones and compare.
I went to Cafe Vivant tonight.
I really love the space.
They played Nirvana and Pearl Jam all
night
I met Jason, one of the partners.
I mentioned that their wine list was insanely big and asked where they store their wines. He said their wine room/storage is next door and is as big as the dining room!!
Anyway, really delicious food, fun place…they said their website will be fully running soon with updated wine list.
Had my client group dinner this week and The Morris was absolutley outstanding. Food, service, wine service were really just terrific. Alex the Somm is a great guy who has a terrific wine list to work with. We all loved it and will go back if I get the chance to explore the rest of the menu.
Thanks Larry and Robert! Spruce is a good one – I forgot to check. Grabbed a table at Kokkari but feel like I got there too often for business lunches/dinners.
Depends what you are looking for. Whenever I go to SF, I like to get lunch outside at Hog Island if possible. Love their fried anchovies and usually get some sampling of their grilled oysters. If it’s a clear day in SF, great views and atmosphere.
Spent a wonderful weekend in Santa Cruz for a once in a lifetime wine tasting / study.
On our way back to NYC we hit The Cultured Pickle Shop (Berkeley) for their Saturday and Sunday only lunch. What an experience! The meal was outstanding and the place has such great energy. It is open Monday through Friday for pick up only. On the weekends they do a rice bowl based lunch with a few add ons. The craftsmanship and quality of the food was simply outstanding. I can’t wait to go back and would love to bring Sake or wine.
Visiting my wife’s city by the Bay as we do 2x/year. TIYA, again is our standout meal.
I’ve posted about this Indian restaurant in the Marina district before. I’ve also had the great pleasure of dining at some of SF’s most highly regarded establishments, including many of those noted on this thread.
I’ll say it again: best meal.
We shared the tandoori avocado and some kind of white, flaky fish (“native to India but sourced locally and sustainably”) that was new on the menu. K had the Indian g&t, I had a dirty martini.
The cocktails were 1000% spot on, the small and large plates were “omg” worthy.
Oh, we also had room for dessert. We indulged
In a 10y tawny port and a chocolate for her and panna cotta for me.
My team’s admin just booked a holiday dinner for those of us in town in December at La Mar. Looks like it’s on the water in downtown SF. Anyone have experience / thoughts? I read some stuff online and seemed solid if not amazing but curious if anyone has additional perspectives.
Solid but not amazing is an apt description. But you should be aware that it can be extremely noisy so it may be difficult/impossible to have a quiet conversation with the other people at the table.
Yup that’s how I would describe it, though I’d say very solid!! We have a great time every time we go. Been going there for probably 15 years and never had a bad meal.
Love, love, love everything Stuart and Nicole do. Only tough part is deciding which restaurant to go to. I have only done Anchovy Bar once, plus the Anchovy Bar collab with Penny, and I think State Bird around 6x and The Progess 5x this year! And I don’t live in SF!
I have been known to do more than one restaurant in a single night : )
Cocktail + a bite at Progress before dinner at Anchovy Bar or SBP is always mandatory. But I presume that’s not the double restaurant approach you’re talking about
The Progress just keeps getting better and better. Was there on Tuesday and decided to do only veg and it was incredible. Came back the next night and was going to hit State Bird but they were closed for a private event so I did The Progress again and had the otherworldly Rabbit stew! WOW! What a dish.
