One of my and my wife’s favorite SF restaurants. One thing we always order is Breaking Bread. The pita is out of this world, and the dips aren’t far behind.
Are the mains at the Progress to share for two or for one? The entrees seem to run $48 to $80.
Does Dalida allow BYO?
Dalida’s corkage policy is $40 for the first bottle, $60 for any additional bottles. No bottle limit.
I was just about to post about Dragon Beaux. Two thumbs up!
Had a bit of a mediocre dinner at Kin Khao. Food was OK, but didn’t meat expectations and service was very uneven.
Well you shouldn’t get the veg menu!
Tip your waitress. Try the veal.
Yes, fixed! Thanks.
Sorry to hear it.
It’s a bit of a weird location/layout along the corridor of a hotel. Convenient to Hotel Nikko for sure. Food was good but not as good as expected/hoped.
The mains are to share. They are large.
very nice line up! would love to participate in this haha
I’m not sure if this is the right thread, but I’m headed to the Santa Rosa area the first full week of July with the family (me, wife and 10 year old son who eats almost everything). We’re Airbnb’ing in downtown SR but will have a car and be mobile. I’d appreciate any recs for local hole in the walls with outdoor seating and great food. We don’t do Michelin places, we prefer the homey mom & pop that’s putting out great food. And of course any good small high quality wineries in the area?
Thanks!
El Molino Central
About a half hour from Santa Rosa, but worth a trip. Great Mexican food. Seafood “coctel” is fantastic. Mole chicken enchilada also great (though everything on the menu is fantastic).
El Molino is a good rec. for your shopping needs, go to Olivers Market. I’m most familiar with the one in Windsor, which is fantastic, tons of prepared foods, excellent produce, a cheese counter to rival any standalone cheese shop. There is one in central SR as well.
Bit of a drive, but a favorite is Diavola in Geyserville. Excellent Pizzas, pastas, salads.
I know Healdsburg better:
Guiso Latin Fusion
Bravas Tapas bar
Troubador for breads and interesting prepared sandwiches
El Sombrero taqueria
Journeyman meats does great salumi, also a small sitting area for sandwiches and pizzas
@Brian_Tuite will have more recs
Alan does visit Healdsburg pretty often. I will second the recommendation for Bravas. For baked goods and pastries, Quail & Condor and Downtown Bakery,
Wineries: Idlewild, Nalle, Unti
These are all great, thanks so much! Any bakeries in Santa Rosa I should hit up?
I always liked Spinster Sisters in Santa Rosa.
Alan has Healdsburg pretty well covered. I would chime in and say that I’ve had great experiences at Ramen Gaijin in Sebastopol and they are corkage friendly
Good one, was thinking of that but forgot while typing lol.
Bakeries: Larry mentioned Quail & Condor. That’s the sister to Troubador. Cute little bakery, has made some best of lists recently. Used to be they were only open certain days, and sold out pretty early. Lately when we’ve driven by or stopped in they seem to have more later in the day, but I would hit them earlier than later. It’s not big or fancy, just a nice array of simple pastries, cookies, breads.
Also Costeaux French Bakery in Healdsburg
For a bit of an adventure, there’s a bakery way out west in the middle of nowhere. Rustic breads and some pastries. Draws a crowd on weekends. Nice drive, if you want to head out to Bodega Bay on the coast one day
Wild Flour Bread
140 Bohemian Hwy, Freestone, CA 95472
F-Mo 8-6 (check their hours)
Out that way is Boheme winery, which I recommend. Ping @Kurt_B_e_i_t_l_e_r
At Olivers, look for any Andante cheeses. Local sonoma producer who makes world class cheeses. Mostly soft, they get beautiful, rich and creamy when allowed to age for a while.
Ca’ Bianca Italian resto in Santa Rosa used to be pretty good, and a fun venue in an old victorian, but I haven’t been in quite a few years.
I think Brian Tuite would recommend Walter Hansel Wine & Bistro, out on Geurnville Rd.
Bravas in Healdsburg is good but really getting stale, menu hasn’t changed one bit in years. For us the best restaurant in Healdsburg considering food, price service is Tisza Bistro. Central European food prepared to perfection. Indoor seating or outside patio dining.
Added bonus, free corkage on Monday. You won’t be disappointed.
I know italian food back East is wonderful (we lived in NJ for 60 years) but Lococo’s in downtown Santa Rosa is a throwback to what Little Italy and Mulberry st were in the 60’s and 70’s. Owner is from New York
As mentioned, Diavola in Geyserville (about 20 miles from downtown Santa Rosa) is very different than Lococo’s but also excellent.
For Mexican, El Milagro in Healdsburg is the best Mexican by far that is close to Santa Rosa. For down and dirty Mexican and featured on Guy Fieri’s DDD there is Taqueria Molcajetes on College Ave in Santa Rosa. It’s an institution and very popular.
I could go on and on, let me know if you have questions on restaurants, wineries-tasting rooms or sites to see. My wife and I always say when we come back home from vacation we are back and starting another vacation in Sonoma County!
Here is some info on a couple of the restaurants I mentioned.
