Fleurette did not disappoint! We shared the Golden Chicken, along with the green salad. The chicken was tender and herbaceous, the jus was absolute perfection. Highly recommend. We also had the tuna tartare special to start, served over Santa Barbara uni, which was 10/10.
Paired our chicken with a bottle of 2023 Wasenhaus Chardonnay - young & fresh, it was a really great accompaniment to the chicken.
As already mentioned on this thread, my only complaint is the location. UTC is a bit of a drag given that it’s a primarily an office park. I’m surprised that Fleurette wasn’t put in La Jolla proper. For the record, my opinion on the location is definitely skewed by my PTSD of commuting to UTC for many years…
Yes, it is in Carlsbad practically right across the street from Jeune et Jolie. I haven’t been but friends have and say it’s exceptional. Rumor has it. They’re on track for a second star. They just got rated the top restaurant in the country by the Robb report so I would definitely make a reservation for in advance. Another WB is visiting, and I helped him plan out his trip and suggested it. He was able to get a reservation fortunately, the day before the news came out, so not sure how tough it would be now particularly in the summer.
My wife and son’s birthdays are both in August, so I’ll be taking them both to Fleurette in early August (he eats everything, and at 11 years old, a LOT of everything…). I’ll report back.
I was in San Diego last week and didn’t have any fancy food, but we had a lot of good food. My favorite may have been the Taco Stand in Encinitas. Surpassed my expectations for such a chain with so many locations. And remarkably good despite the humorous scene of busy Mexicans serving a long line of smiling gringos, many of whom seemed completely unfamiliar with the basics of Spanish. But they knew where to get good food.
I used to pop in all the time until I developed gout, and now I have to stay away from beer. My favorite beer in the regular lineup is juice press but every once in a while they would do something called everybody’s juicing, which was my favorite.
if you find yourself down in Carlsbad, you should pop in. It’s right across from Palomar airport and near Legoland.
