Eating and Drinking in Paris

Arrived at Les Enfants at 15:30 today and the kitchen was already closed. A quick google and we arrived at Glou at 1550 with a 1600 cut off for the kitchen. Food arrived fast and was half decent if basic. Romain Henin went well

We loved Le Bon Georges, the food was excellent. Phenomenal wine list and a small intimate feel for a two bottle lunch.

Where would I go to eat if I wanted a nice selection of 375s preferable burgundy). Especially if I’m not paying top dollar for them.

Cool, I think we just caught it on an off night, perhaps partially on us for not being very hungry and we loved the potato dish too.

Hi Brian - Maybe an off night for the restaurant and the combination of you not being hungry was it. Have you seen Tripadvisor reviews on Boutary? Maybe the highest of any restaurant I have ever seen. But that certainly doesn’t mean something can’t be not up to par on any given night. I’m acquaintances with Frederic the head waiter, after only two nights there so I’m hoping for a great night.

Jerry

Thanks for this, I have a reservation at Le Bon Georges in December.

If you are going to be in Paris this Nov 29 or 30, there is a very large wine tasting going on in a great/central location - the Carrousel du Louvre in the center of town. Several major houses/domaines from Burgundy, Bordeaux, Alsace, etc., will be there, and they are also having Master Tastings w/ Krug, Dom Perignon, d’Yquem, Bouchard Pere et Fils, etc., etc. - and the cost is fantastic: 35E-40E for the large day sessions I think & about 50E-120E for the Master Tastings. I can’t make it this year (and have never gone), but would love to hear reports on how it is. If you PM, me, I can forward more info/my invite. Theo

I have gone to the Grand Tasting many times, it is truly great. Though Friday is much less busy than Saturday for obvious reasons. One note, the master classes are in French. My favorite is the food pairing workshops but they are likely sold out.

Thanks Tim; it looks like I am going to have to try to make it in the future. I have to say, it is really wonderful how many great wine tastings, events & invites there are in Paris - and this wholly excluding ‘natural wine’, which I have zero interest in (excluding burg & bordeaux).

My family is going to Paris on Christmas week - so excited, it’s been six years since we were last in this great city. It’s three of us, including my 16-year-old daughter.

I follow this thread closely and have made some reservations already, seen below. @Robert_Dentice and others, if you have any suggestions to add I would greatly appreciate it!

Reserved:
Clown Bar (dinner)
Le Servan (dinner)
Au Passage (dinner)
Le Bon Georges (dinner)
Seine boat tour 3-course lunch on Christmas day (kinda cracked ourselves up on this one)

Wants/not booked:
Les Enfants du Marché for lunch one day, if possible
Parcelles
Oobatz
Bistrot Paul Bert
Somewhere for lunch near the catacombs, which we are aiming for.

I haven’t spent much time in Paris for many years so FWIW,

I always preferred Le 6 Paul Bert to the bistrot. Only ate at the bistro once. Good but just that. Not sure who is cooking at Le 6 now. I know it’s changed.

No Septime or Clamato on your list. Nothing new to the scene but I understand they are both still good if you want to deal with the crowd.

I will be going back soon. As always, so many new things to try. Looking at things like Dandelion, Double, Bistrot Darsy.

L’Agrume is not too far from the catacombs.

As mentioned in my post above, they were inexplicably closed when we showed up for our lunch resv.

But from what I have heard it is a great lunch spot.

Honestly I would skip the Seine Boat trip.

Les Enfants will be cold in December but it is still worth it. I was in Paris yesterday for 19 hours on my way to Burgundy. We hit both Les Enfants du Marche and Butcher of Paris. Butcher was really good. It is next to Les Enfants in the market. We also did Restaurant A.T which is as great as ever. We stopped by Tarantula to see our friend Maniu…we did not eat but I hear it is very good.

If you can’t get into Bistro Paul Bert and you want a nice Bistro experience I would recommend Bistro des Tournelles.

On our last trip our favorite meal was Cheval d’ Or.

If you are there on Sunday do the Roast Chicken at Brutos.

If you want to have a nice bottle do the bar at Tour d Argent while your family does some shopping!

Going to La Ferme de la Ruchotte on Saturday! We will see how it stacks up!

We won’t be in Paris on a Sunday, so we’re going to miss out on Brutos! Also Cheval d’Or is closed xmas week. :frowning:

 It’s mostly a silly thing and something fun(ny) to do on xmas day.

On a day when little will be open, it’s a good activity.

If you don’t mind some exposure to the elements, I loved the private tour of the Seine. About the same price for a family of four as some of the lunch/dinner cruises.

The one we used: https://myparisriver.com/en/

Though they don’t operate on Christmas or New Years Eve/Day.

I love the Seine boat tour - the views are unique.

But aren’t there ones without the food? I guess I am talking without knowing, just never thought it would truly be gourmet. Please report back.

It was always a favorite with our visitors… and we had A LOT of them.
