Some updates…hit Paris for 48 hours or so for the last two nights of La Tour d’Argent.
Had lunch at Les Enfant du Marche and love what the new Chef is doing. Similar but perhaps a tad lighter than Masa’s food. Although it could just be that it is spring.
Also did a wonderful 6 hour lunch at Chef Masa’s new spot Actedeux. It is definitely a scene and I would guess not all of the people are there for the food. However the food is nonetheless excellent. We let him cook a veg and fish menu for us and loved it. Wine list is all natural with a few cleaner selections. My friend Aaron Ayscough is doing the list and is just getting started. It will be interesting to see how the place evolves, it definitely has a cool vibe and is packed but not with your typical wine and foodie crew. It is outside on the 5th floor so beautiful views.
We hit Clamato for lunch and they are firing on all cylinders. My only quibble is I wish the wine list was a bit more expansive, we always find something and had a nice bottle of Ganevat.
Is there a secret to septime reso other than just mashing refresh 21 days prior? Have wanted to try and can never see availability in 10+ trips to Paris
@Mark - you should have Brutos on your list. Has never failed to please and I’ve brought everyone from my daughters (Lauren loves the duck hearts) to colleagues. Also one of Wendy’s favorites (Paris is my Kitchen). Chatted with her on IM briefly this AM - man do I miss CAM. Very, very few places I’ve visited where I’ve actually DREAMED about eating dinner there - CAM was on that short list.
Any recommendations for something like the old Le Comptoire for couples dinner as a ‘last night in Paris’? Not looking for anything too stuffy or overly formal. Thinking of Juvenile’s Wine Bar (found it off this list: https://parisbymouth.com/our-favorite-paris-restaurants/)
Resos for Paris are all done, June 15-20th with my wife for her 50th. Thursday Oysters Lunch at Huitrerie Régis, dinner at Arpège; Friday lunch at David Touraine, dinner at Parcelles; Saturday lunch at la Fayette, diner at girafe; and finally Sunday lunch TBD and dinner at le Coq & fils.
Ate at Cagouille last week. As good as ever. A bottle of 2016 Domaine Roulot Meursault Clos du Haut Tesson À Mon Plaisir with razor clams……fantastic!
Had a ripping meal at Le Bon Georges too. There is a new Chef’s table area and the team prepared a very special meal for us. Terrine en croute of pork and black truffle to start, then Razor clams followed by beautifully cooked pigeon breast with fresh peas and wild asparagus. The main course of veal with fresh Morilles was just about the dish of the trip for mine. Desserts were a biscuity cake of strawberries and cream and the most enormous pot of chocolate mousse.
Also had excellent meals at Parcelles, Paul Bert, Oui Mon General and a light meal at Avant Comptoir.
We’re planning on doing the stop by while we’re there, but do you know what time the online booking opens 21 days out? I was assuming 6 PM EST since it is Midnight in Paris; hence, the next day, but it says not open yet for +21 days.
Juveniles is very low key and English friendly. Great food, pretty good / reasonably priced list. It’s one of the places I’d take colleagues that flew into town, as there’s always a safe but delicious dish on the menu.
Arnaud Nicolas is fantastic if you like pate en croute and charcuterie types of dishes. It’s also close to the Eiffel Tower, so you can waddle over (speaking for myself) and see the lights at night after you eat a pork and foie pie. It’s not as warm as Juveniles is, but the food is great.
One of the more overlooked places, imho, is https://lesfinesgueules.fr/. Great food, a deep wine list and usually easy to get in on short notice. If they aren’t too busy, they’ll let you bumble around the cellar. It’s not horribly organized, but I always enjoy poking around. A friend that’s a master Somm originally recommended it (and joined us there when he came to visit) and I’ve done some damage to their list quite a few times. We went there for our last lunch, so feels like it should be on this list
