Heartbreaking
You can hear the silence.
Just incredibly sad.
Incredibly sad. Eerily I was passing through Paris last Tuesday and had a chance to go there again and passed up, as I didnât think it would resonate with my FIL. âNext timeâ I said to myselfâŠ
Heartbroken to see the news when I woke up this morning, how terrible for all the people who worked so hard to build something so wonderful. Both the FOH and the suppliers will be affected, my heart goes out to everyone.
I am getting three blind men and the elephant data from friends over there . Some stay this is the students, some say these are troublemakers who join in for the fun of it, some say it is the Africans and Moslems, living in the outskirts of Paris, and some say these are paid instigators.
MY BAD-- The French press is not stating that this was due to the protest. But it did start 3 AM
Isnât this more of a national pastime in France than an âimmigrationâ issue?
Donation link is up. I have not personally verified this but Mika himself posted a link.
Done. Thanks for posting this. I saw Mika a week ago and barely recognized him as we hugged. Tanned, fit, hair⊠Surfing every day agrees with him! Iâm so sorry for his trouble and for the trouble of all his employees. What a loss.
Of note, there was a massive cyber attack in France overnight targeting French grocery stores. Basically they hacked into the refrigeration controls across hundreds of markets to turn the temp up to maximum, which spoiled the food and caused fires. There is a question as to whether there is a connection.
Saw that in the news today. We live in interesting timesâŠ
The largest grocery chain in the Netherlands faced quite some challenges as well.
So sad to read about this.
In Paris for Art Basel Paris and getting around to some favorites. So far itâs been Altro Frenchie, Oobatz, TekĂ©s, and Brutos, i.e., 4/4 on some great dining and drinking. We made friends with the table next to us at Brutos last night, and they gave us the leavings of their 2008 Fonsalette and 2018 Allemand Cornas Chaillot - good times.
I got into Paris on Sunday, the day after the major protests and violence, and the city has been basically calm. There are signs of the manifestation all over - debris, graffiti - and there is a palpable worry among people I have spoken with that this will lead to a rightwing authoritarian government to ârestore order.â But you wouldnât know it at Art Basel, where sales have been robust. Another, apparently much larger manifestation is planned for Saturday, and there are rumors that the fair will be canceled this weekend.
oof stay safe out there Zach. Art Basel may indeed be a target for all the obvious reasons⊠Nice tablemate, eh!
Art Basel Paris announced that the fair will be closed Saturday and Sunday because of the protests. So it looks like I get a Paris weekend vacation! Well, it might be a hotel staycation on Saturday.
I was scheduled to go Saturday, guess Iâll make it tomorrow instead. Foundation LV was unusually busy today, which I credited to everyone being in town for the fairs.
Benjamin Schmitt last night was excellent.
Did you see the Fayet show? Remarkable.
The Fayet exhibition at Fondation Louis Vuitton is astounding!
So was dinner last night at Juveniles. Such a gem.
