Eating and Drinking in New York City

thanks for the reviews. i missed rezdora when it first opened but keep meaning to try it. havent thought of danji in years but its a good option for that area.

joe and pats is solid. rubirosa is affiliated on mulberry but swamped lately. i probably prefer rubirosa overall but its such a pain to dine there lately and joe and pats is much easier for similar pizza.

anyone try the new emmetts on grove? they have some bar pizza that looks quite good.

Was my go to spot when I lived in LIC. Never had a corkage issue.

Marea had to temporarily shut down due to COVID outbreak. Supposed to be eating there in 11 days on my 40th bday; hope the staff gets better soon so they can reopen their doors

FWIW, I had a pretty lacklustre dining experience at Marea last week.

Nothing wrong with that. It could have been much too exciting and memorable.

Yes, thankfully no breakthrough infections for me or my dining guests (we were there 10 days ago and have since all tested negative many times), but the food and wine service were well bellow par unfortunately. Regrettably a pretty disappointing evening.

I like this news website! Seems like clearly they take translated copies of nypost stories and then translate them back to English?

But the bill was probably well above par, as offset. [snort.gif]

going to post this as a seperate thread so it doesn’t get lost in the mix

hm pete wells seemed to like hawksmoor, anyone been there?

Pacing on bringing out entrees can be a little slow (40 minute wait), so you have to pace your drinks while waiting for them or you may overly imbibe. I liked the lamb appetizer a bit. The cook on the entrees was perfect, but I’m not convinced on the charcoal for the steak (versus the lamb, which I thought was phenomenal). Their fries are basically jumbo McDonald fries. Very corkage friendly.

charcoal with grass fed steaks is certainly a choice
i do like sauces with steak so

they never opened on mondays for $10 corkage
guess thats a sign of the times with a lack of staff.

i havent been but it seems popular judging by the availability of tables on opentable. im less interested from a culinary perspective but will gladly try if and when they do the corkage mondays. im sure its solid.

Eating out tomorrow in NYC for the first time in over 2 years😯

good luck - you’ll need it.

such a weird depressing vibe across the city today. post holiday, its always a bit bleak but with the weather and the covid positives, its ultra quiet here in the village.

imagine it must be an easy time scoring hard to snag tables.

Had a nice quiet meal at Cervos last evening. Only 1/2 - 2/3rds full. They now take reservations for a small part of the restaurant.

Had lunch at the Red Hook Tavern on Sunday. They have recently put into place a lunch menu - which is highly abbreviated. That was a shame, as I really love their french onion soup. That wasnt on the menu this afternoon. I probably should have looked at the site, they now publish a lunch menu, it lists the soup but it wasn’t offered yesterday.
No matter. Lunch was the Country Ham Croquettes which are always very good along with their version of a wedge salad. The salad had grown tremendously since my last visit as has the slab of Nueske’s bacon laid on top. Youll want to have that as a main, or share it as I did. It was was very tasty.
I shared the burger, which was a little disappointing since last visit. All of the juices immediately ran out as I cut it, making the last couple of bites pretty dry. The bun was as always, excellent, as was the pickle. Based on this one, I would not rate it among the top burgers in the city - but hopefully it was just an off day.
We tasted the orange wine, Spaceboy Pinot Gris 2020, not for me to be honest, and settled on the Rose, Cuvée Tradition 2019. The Rose was exactly what we wanted to cut through the burger.
All in all, I would prefer to go back for dinner - to have a chance at the full menu.
