Now that I’m vaccinated and ready to dine outdoors (or hopefully indoors), I find out I no longer really know what to expect from some places. I’ll be staying at the La Peer hotel one night (border of WeHo and Beverly Hills, very close to Pacific Design Center on ).
I was thinking of trying Spago’s again (my last prepandemic meal was a disappointment vs. the fabulous meals I have had there before). Any other suggestions in the general area (like to keep it to about 1.5 - 2 mile radius). A place that will have fish and vegetarian options, and doesn’t need to be very fancy, just worthwhile.
Catch LA is super close, but surprisingly booked up shortly after reservations first became available for 3/21.
I looked at the menu of the Ivy but the menu of today is very limited. Not sure it was a great place vs. a place to be seen.
I know people weren’t loving Shibumi way back when, but it looks like the same people are opening (just opened?) a new omakase joint. Anyone know anything about it?
Disclaimer: I ask at least partially because they are planning to feature one of our sakes.
Check out the Prosciutto pizza by Elio’s wood fire pizza located at 2517 Sunset Blvd. Los Angeles, CA 90026. Afterwards, purchase a Ooni pizza oven and be inspired!
With LA moving into the red tier and significant increases in vaccines, I’m wondering what people’s plan is with regards to eating out? By middle April I will be fully vaccinated, though I doubt I will eat in doors in the beginning. But I am eager to do more for the F&B industry through support and frequent visits. The industry has not only sustained me financially but is an essential part of my life. I have been longing for this moment to come and while I will remain very cautious, it seems like we have turned a corner.
I had COVID and as of mid January still had antibodies. I have been eating outside and inside with limited capacity throughout the pandemic. The restaurants are taking every single precaution possible and I am really not worried. With a vaccine I would have close to zero worries. Not to minimize anyones individual concerns that is just my viewpoint.
What month did you test positive? The major concern about indoor dining is the safety of staff. While I may be fully vaccinated, I could infect those unvaccinated. Restaurant staff are eligible for vaccines here and hope they take advantage.
I think the chance of that is miniscule. If the staff has a mask on and you have a mask on for prolonged contact with them and you have been vaccinated I can’t imagine there would be any risk.
If you have access to the vaccine and you choose not to take it, then my sympathy for you getting covid-19 is minimal. Not being political, just real. I really hope all restaurant workers who are eligible get it asap.
I’m looking forward to my turn, probably sometime in May, and to get back to seeing people!
I thought being vaccinated does not reduce your risk of transmission. Many undocumented workers have challenges getting vaccinated for multiple reasons. Certainly if we are all vaccinated it’s safe, but we don’t have this info when we dine out. Personally, there is no reason to dine indoors at this time. YMMV
Most of the recent studies have shown that the chances of infecting people are significantly lower. As more people get the vaccine, the more data we’ll have for even more studies. It would basically fly in the face of decades of vaccine science to believe that getting a vaccine does not also reduce the chance of infecting others.
The idea is typically that you’re immune you don’t allow the virus to latch on, so you can’t spread something you don’t have.
Also on the off chance you’re one of the very small amount that still get the illness with the vaccine (since no vaccine is 100% efficient), your viral load is so low that you probably won’t infect anyone anyways.
here’s a good article summarizing a lot of the studies with links to the studies
