longo seafood
Yup. Reserved a few days ago.
Finally went to Bar Chelou over the weekend. Pretty much agree with Robertâs comments. The food is beautiful and tastes great. Service is excellent. The carrots and green beans are fantastic. My only complaint was our short ribs was a smaller portion than I would have preferred. Highly recommended.
no complaints from me - havenât been to Mooâs, but the other 9 in the top 10 are all spots I highly recommend to people. And yaâll know my love for Kato, Anajak, Hayato runs deeeeeeeeep
Mooâs is great bbq. I havenât dined there so I canât comment on the overall dining experience.
Iâm happy for Kato. Excellent restaurant.
One flaw with the list. The restaurant with my favorite food in LA is not even on it. Destroyer! Unless I missed itâŚ
Super happy for Anajak, I was there last night.
Now that Gold is gone, there isnât a lot of love for Kahn. Gold had Vespertine (which is reopening) as #1 when he was at the Times.
Itâs a very good list. Perhaps the one place I wish they had included is Otono, which I feel is a top 25. A few places I like arenât on it and thatâs fine as they do great business and they will still be accessible. I just ate at the HP Highly likely. Nice patio space and the food was good. Super casual.
LA dining history is littered with great, fun restaurants run by young, adventurous chefs who roll their success into something grand but ultimately less than what made those chefs great in the first place. A few that immediately pop into my head (if I were to stop and think, there would be many more):
Original City Cafe - Feniger and Milliken
Original Spago - Puck
Red Medicine - Kahn
Max au Triangle - Splichal
I enjoyed their first, smaller, less grand restaurants much more than what followed. Iâm sure you have a similar list.
I agree about Vespertine. However the beauty of Destroyer is that I think it forces Jordan, who is a genius, to do things in a different more simple way. The end result really works for me. The food is among my favorite of any restaurant in the U.S.
I agree that he is a very gifted chef. And I like Destroyer, too. The food may have been lesser (arguable) at Red Medicine, but the vibe and energy at Red Medicine was special. And the cooking was great there, too (not to mention that he kicked the LA Times food critic at the time out of the restaurant). I like catching ascending chefs on the way up, which reminds me that I would add Robuchon - Jamin to a Paris list of chefs whose early restaurants I preferred to those when they were at the top of the world.
Is Majordomo still great (older reviews praising)? Thinking of going with a group but never been. What are the top dishes and corkage fee/limits?
heâs the somm - he really likes wine lovers coming. Shoot him a message and let him know.
Domo is still tasty. If youâve never been you gotta order either the mushroom or duck confit crispy rice, the boiled whole chicken, whole plate short rib. Then get yourself some dips and bings
Speaking of somms, I saw that Matt Luczy left Melisse. Does anyone know where he went?
Chillin
SoâŚWhere are you takinâ the Waldmanns when they come to town?
Wherever you want baby
Have him take you to Taco/Tostada Tuesday.
Finally hit Quarter Sheets. I enjoyed it very much. It is not my favorite style of Pizza so Pizzeria Sei still is my #1 in LA but I would go back.
Also for anyone in LA, I am pouring my wine and curating the music for a gathering or artists today from 2-6 at the EŸN VAS gallert at 1634 West Temple. Live music starts around 4. I will have at least four wines to try.
The event was a huge success and my wines were very well received. It was cool to pour them for mostly non wine people. Chef Jordan Kahn came and loved them and wants to use them for the pairing when Vespertine reopens!
Post event we went to Majordomo and as usual it was great. My reservation for four at 8 on Saturday night turned into 7, then 9 then 10 and they where so cool about it!
