I’ll be in Boston in late September, staying near Inman Square for 2 nights. Anything interesting (ie small hole-in-the-wall type place) within walking distance? I have an event at Oleana so that one is covered, I’d love to discover something new.
Thanks in advance.
Puritan & Co.
Or the oyster bar next door.
Thanks! Love Puritan, anything else new in that area?
Casa Portugal and Muqueca (Brazilian) are both also on Cambridge St. within a couple of blocks from Puritan. They’re not new, and can be interesting for a change, but definitely not vegetarian-friendly (I’m not vegetarian but I have friends who are vegetarian or vegan). But honestly, I find myself returning to Puritan because I always have a good time there, and the wine list is reasonably interesting.
On Monday I’m having dinner with friends at Sarma, which is run by the same team as Oleana, and is up in Somerville, maybe a mile north of Inman Square. If you’re located near Oleana, nearby is Kantipur (Nepalese), and not much further south is Mulan (Taiwanese), which is on Broadway near my old stomping grounds (One Kendall Square). And further east on Binney and Third is Sumiao (Hunanese), which is a reliable favourite among my colleagues.
If you’re willing to venture farther out, Urban Hearth out on the west side of Cambridge is good. Or visit Bow Market (Somerville) and see what’s available foodwise (not all shops are open on all days), and get your wine from Rebel Rebel.
Pammy’s and Moona
+1 on Moona. Haven’t been to Pammy’s.
This is great, thanks so much!
Recs for a really good steak would be appreciated, especially near Harvard/Charles Hotel. A friend mentioned one on the top floor of a hotel but he couldn’t remember the name of the restaurant or the hotel!
Steak is not my thing but I asked co-workers and among the recommendations are Frank’s Steakhouse, Grill23, and Bogie’s Place.
Mooo near Beacon Hill is pricey but good. Grill 23 has been around for ever and is good. Don’t have any Cambridge steakhouse recommendations.
Not Cambridge, but Abe & Louie’s in the Back Bay is pretty good.
Thanks everyone
Grill 23 first
Moooo second
Neither wine list is that great but Grill 23’s is better.
My daughter lives in Boston and she said that the number of liquor licenses is capped and they sell on the secondary marked at a steep premium. So, it would be really hard for a middle tier restaurant to make it work financially and offer a decent beverage program. So that pushes operators outside of Boston or to a fine dining structure.
