Molly ( my dog ) and I went into the mountains today for a hike since it was much cooler up there. Was surprised to find porcini this early - at least 2-3 weeks before their usual appearance in that region. Only found enough for a dinner but it’s a most promising sign and I think we’re going to have a major season.
Wow those look great!
Jack, have you trained your dog to sniff them out?
Jack,
Welcome to Berserkers. It’s nice to see you posting here.
I am insanely jealous! Those look awesome.
Dick - thanks. I’ve been reading your posts for weeks now.
Todd - I’ve tried everything to teach Molly to sniff out morels, boletes or chanterelles. She’s not interested.
Jack
Dogs are useless.
I should know - I have two of the beasties.
Jack these look beautiful! With all the nice rain we got last night and again this morning there should be more showing up just in thime for the Beef Fest and Battle Southern Rhone!
Carollee - I certainly have those events in mind and hope to have a pile of fresh King Boletes ready, and maybe even some chanterelles by that time. You can almost hear the mycelia stirring under the forest floor trying to push those beauties up to the surface. They were quite tasty last night but I still prefer to dry them and reconstitute them when needed. I think the flavor is more pronounced.
Maybe I can Dick to join me in a hunt.
Jack
