Dumbing down of the wine trade...

I just answered the phone and a guys asked if we were seeing vendors today. I asked what he was selling and the answer was “A couple of low price point SKUs from France…”

The producers must be overjoyed.

So tempting. [rolleyes.gif]

Unfortunately this is what wine has become to some, dare I say most, ITBers. [dontknow.gif]

Sounds like a Southern Wine and Spirits salesman to me. They sell “boxes”. Not cases. They’re so awesome.

Boxes, LOL!!!

‘Hey, how many ‘boxes’ you want?’

That’s like the first sign to know a restaurant guy is not serious: he says “Yeah we have six stores”…

I wish I was joking… but that is a true story my friends.

And they wonder why I left the wine industry.

Would you rather have had the phone call I just got
“Are you ready for your '06 Kayli Morgan ?” [rolleyes.gif]

Roberto,
First, what are SKU’s?
Second, what is it that you find ‘dumb’ about this?
Best, Jim

SKU’s taste so good…nothing like Burgundy, Bordeaux, Rhone, etc…

UPC codes

Stock keeping unit - Wikipedia" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Well, I don’t understand it but thanks for the cite.
And my second question?
Best, Jim

Jim,

I think it’s the equivalent of someone calling up and saying “I have some cheap plonk I want to sell you.” Not much of a sales pitch.

Stock
Keeping
Unit

He’s just selling units, and he doesn’t really care what they are.

I like units.

“A couple of low price point SKUs from France…”

as opposed to:

a value, easy-drinking Syrah/Grenache blend from the Languedoc

As if Roberto would buy something based solely on the pricepoint and origin

I like units.

Funny, I know a few guys who are sellin’

I need units.

Well, since you two are so “unit focused”, I offer a Big Unit.

Well, he is VERY tall. [wow.gif]

PWT is his nickname.
