Duckhorn is the embodiment of evil.

I’m a tad disappointed Richard Jennings didn’t taste smoked pears.

Is it as bad as Sex Panther?

$55 for a flawed wine? Of course!

A perfect wine will cost at least $500 newhere

Serge is back?!?

Would those be smoked Anjou, smoked Bartlett, smoked Bosc or smoked Comice pear?

What I don’t understand is why a big corp like Duckhorn didn’t make an insurance claim on some if not all of the wine (or bulk into Migration). Their Margins would have not been as high but they could have seriously gained some goodwill with consumers/loyalists by not releasing such a flawed wine. I tasted this wine as well as many other '08 AV Pinots and I’m not a fan of licking an ash tray.

At the time I was working for a small family owned Mendo winery who made an insurance claim on most of their '08s (To their advantage they were not 100% estate nor 100% Mendo). It was a pain but they did this to keep their integrity intact.

Or do what Navarro did, declassify into a secondary label(Indian Creek) and sell it on the cheap.

The last thing any producer should do is try to deceive consumers to pay regular retail for an inferior product.

Bought some of Burt Williams’s Morning Dew Ranch 08. It had some smoke taint, but it was pretty damn good. He charged something like $55 per bottle, but noted the smoke taint in the tasting note. When the 09 came out, which he loved, he charged approx. $75. So, he clearly charged less for the flawed vintage. But to tell you the truth, I liked the 08 quite a bit. It wasn’t as structured or complex as the 09, but it was pretty darn good.

Yeah I just acquainted myself with the ignore function. [dance-clap.gif]

Being a journalist, I can understand the impact of an attention grabbing title, and reading this thread, I see some legitimate critical ideas, but “the embodiment of evil”? … that’s really a bit (far too) much

P.S. Part of the reason why I read most of this thread is because I have met Margaret Duckhorn who was always very kind and gracious, although it has been a while since I have last spoken to her.
