Drive-By Burgs: '03 Roumier Musigny and '83 Jayer Nuits-Meurgers

At a housewarming party last night with a giant group. A friend who’s an importer grabs me and a couple of friends and leads us into the kitchen to try something “interesting”. He’s got half a bottle of '03 Roumier Musigny which he doles out into plastic cups. Even en plastique this wine is a beaut–gorgeous fruit and spice on the nose, and the silkiest mouthfeel I’ve probably ever encountered in a wine. An absolute smack-yourself-on-the-forehead kind of wine. Then he opens the Jayer, an appellation I’ve never heard of. After the slight fustiness blows off, this is one of those light, tart floral burgs that sneak up on you. Pure and simple and a real joy to drink. Anyone have any info on Nuits-Meurgers? Is this wine still made?

I think these are the kinds of burgs that can be a real treat but a kind thay grand-cru only types have a harder time appreciating.
