On a steakhouse menu. Seems like lowest in the country, especially for Texas. I wouldn’t even know how to judge authenticity, but I am leaning toward the trip and rolling the dice.

The wine needs 20-30 years to be at its peak. If you saw that price in 2045, jump on it. Today? Pass.

There is a school of thought among those who consume the wines regularly that nowadays the wines from the DRC are better broached rather younger than they used to be, and indeed that post 2007 they no longer offer the expected longevity. My experience is not wide enough to have a view but it is possibly worth recording.
If one wants to drink young La Tache a trip to Germany would more than pay for itself in view of the above price.

FWIW, I tried the 2017 and 2019 in October last year. Neither was ‘worth it’ for me given their youth, and the 2019 particularly backwards and tight. I would expect the 2020 to be even more youthful / closed / tight and inexpressive. But if you really want to try La Tache, this is not the worst price or choice you could make.
So would a US$1k tip on that come across as “cheap” nowadays :)??

Headed to Monarch in Dallas tomorrow, they have both of those wines at $5700 and $7500, or you can roll back through a handful of vintages to 2011 for a few K more. Wonderful selections on this list but everything is very expensive, generally speaking.
That is an outrageous price for a wine that just might open up ever so slightly if you sit at the table through both lunch and dinner…

I’m trying to get down there soon with the boy. We are planning an East/West run from the LA state line to the NM state line to say we did it in a day.
Well you may need to go West to East if you’re planning on stopping in Houston to drink a bottle of DRC 
Haha, would pit stop overnight there to get ready for the journey. Good thing is I have DD/Pilot/Navigator for the next morning.

Tâche prices have dropped and $4k-ish is where I want to see it these days for a great price.
I think you may be able to find some at some restaurants for around that; I did see that in the recent HDH auction there was a significant uptick in price, especially for 2018.
Presumably this is a joke? It means that to allow yourself to buy a single bottle of €30 wine, you need to have total assets to the value of three million euros. In which case, almost no one in the world would be buying any wine at all…
