What a freakin’ joke in so many ways.
First of all, 25 pre-ordered - ya right, from within the company.
Secondly, a 6 bottle case of EACH winery in the book - obviously instead of the TRUE top 100 wineries, they’ll be getting the top 100 advertisers of Wine Spectator or similar. Like the great Bordeaux, Champagne, and Barolo houses are going to sell them 6 bottles X100 for this stupid book.
Well I suppose this is why the big cost:
Every purchaser of the book will also receive a six-bottle case of wine from every one of the 100 wineries listed, as well an invitation to visit some of them.
These would be perfect items to send to charities for auctions instead of just made for profit. Dare to dream.
Averaging $1600 a bottle…what an excellent way to spend your coin.
brb checking the couches for spare change
Good timing…
So, you are saying that you won’t be selling these in your shop next to the stacks of Lambrusco?
[Insert here usual reference to P.T. Barnum.]

Heck, all I can say is that stupider ideas have actually worked . . .
Does take major huevos in this current environment, though . . .
So what exactly is the criteria for inclusion and who are these “experts”? Wonder how many have financial interest in the wines being chosen?
“The list of sommeliers and wine experts has not been revealed, but the spokeswoman said that ‘every wine-producing country’ will be represented.”
So that would include Bulgaria, Slovenia, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Peru, Mexico, Syria, Paraguay, etc., etc.?
So Borat could be on that list…Nice!
6 bottles… but who knows of what vintage?
I ordered the book but was disappointed in the top 100 wineries.
Franzia, Charles Shaw, Gallo, some Alabama strawberry wine.
Douchebaggery at its finest. The sad thing is that some db will no doubt buy this thing.

If you call me a douchebag again…
Loren,
These will be located in aisle 4, next to the $250 wines from Valtellina and the 96 point Jumillan wines.
$250 Valtellina Wines? In double mags, maybe but otherwise, no way…
Wine from each of the 100 wineries…so for Harlan (for example) you could get Maiden…for DRC you could get Echezeaux (and not Romanee Conti)…and the list goes on.
