Does the varietal (variety) you drink dictate on whether you post a note or not?

So, it’s me again, I have a reputation probably part pain in the ass, but a reputation nonetheless for drinking young wines, mostly Napa Cabs and posting notes. Now I have ‘evolved’ from my neanderthal stage and am drinking more Cali-Pinot. I post as fervently as I always have but seem to notice a dearth of Pinot notes around here and I am starting to feel out of place. Is it that you guys are more type B personalities?
I have much to adjust to I think.

So, does what you drink dictate your note-posting?

I usually write a note when I remove a bottle from CT but not always. It usually depends on how it was, if it was worth a note, and if I remembered enough about it to make a note worthwhile other than ‘great wine’. I do not get very descriptive usually, just a few smells of tastes and general impression of age, overall enjoyment. I don’t think I have ever posted a note here though, and not for any particular reason.

It’s cause Pinot sucks.

I have twice as many pinot notes as I do cab notes on CT. The reason is that I have more opportunity to drink that vs cab.

As for posting the note here… I run hot and cold.

Who has the most TN threads sans a single reply? I have to be in the running.

I think I must be in the running. Don’t post TNs much anymore. To pay attention to what’s in the glass, transcribe that, put it in a format and a style that is likely to evoke criticism for its form or content, or apathy? I mostly pass, these days. Sad.

producer over variety

Mike - nice straight-face sarcasm!

And delivered so earnestly.

But a dearth of Pinot posts on a board where seemingly everybody worships Pinot Noir?

[rofl.gif]

The varietal dictates whether I read a TN or not, and I skip all Pinot tasting notes pretty much. And most Cab’s too.

Lots of burgundy notes. That’s Pinot last time I checked [snort.gif]

Mike,

No it’s not the variety, it is technical skill. (Or lack thereof).

I used your post to try to bring a Pinot note from CT into this post, but not gonna happen before I crash. Still, I really liked Kenny L’s 2013 Folk Machine tonight and have never yet shared a note. I’l keep trying but it is not varietal, it is user that prevents my posts!

Why would someone post notes based on what variety they drink? That is just silly.
My posting depends on lots of stuff, and mostly NOT wine related (do I have time to transcribe them digitally? Did I get sick and not have wine? etc.)

Yeah, maybe I just have blinders on but I feel like the majority of tasting notes actually posted here are for red burgundy. If you’re talking about Cali Pinot specifically, then I would agree.

To answer your question; no, my TN posting isn’t governed by the variety I’m drinking.

Mine is determined by the type of wine I drink - I have no problem posting all sorts of notes on Italian wines, or other wines one might describe broadly as AFWE.

However, if I am drinking a hedonistic red that should be Pobega’d, I will pull down the curtains in my house and darken the lighting appropriately, just to ensure that I don’t get outed on the Board for drinking a non-AFWE-compliant wine.

I believe the next time the lights will go dim at the Hughes household will be when Apsara ships their Kenefick Ranch cab [stirthepothal.gif] neener [cheers.gif] .

So spitting/dumping the Shafer Relentless was all an act? There’s a secret stash of Huge Hughes fruit bombs? I’ll be on the look next time I’m in your cellar. [wink.gif]

I think people read tasting notes even if they don’t comment. Or rather, they read them if they have a vested interest, if: they have the wine, they’re curious about the wine, they like the producer, they dislike the producer etc.

Unless you have consumed a wine or own it there is seldom any reason to comment, doesn’t mean that a note doesn’t contribute to the overall knowledge base that the board contains. Of course, CT is a good place for that as well. I put notes in CT b/c CT is my primary source for date when I’m considering a purchase and the repository for my own information for future use.

Oh, and as to the OP, no, varietal doesn’t matter.
