Does the idea of this wine appeal to you?

…The blend from equal parts Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot is deeply colored with purple accents. On the nose, a powerful perfume of Jammy black fruit, oak, violets and candied fruit gets your attention. Very rich, concentrated and full bodied, this ripe young fills your mouth with very ripe, exotic, boysenberry, blue fruit and black berries. There is a touch of oak in the mouth, but with the wealth of quality fruit, that will integrate in time…

I dunno - something about “a powerful perfume of… oak” which just doesn’t appeal to me anymore.

What if price were a factor? Would you try it at $9.99? $19.99? $49.99? $99.99?

I doubt that I’d gamble much more than about $14.99 on the experience.

Although, from what I hear - out West, in California - they have much more success selling these wines at $119.99 than at $19.99.

[Or at least they used to, back in the day, before the bubble burst, and the world went to hell in a handbasket.]

Well, sounds like someone took the time to do some market research and then followed that advice to a “T”. All the components are there - the jam, the oak, all of it. Perfectly confected in the laboratory (er…winery) to present you, the wine consumer, with a undeniably special wine drinking experience. That’s gotta be worth a few bucks, right?

Sounds more like a zin than a cab/merlot blend.

I was serious when I started this thread, but you’ll have a laugh when you find out what the tasting note was describing.

flirtysmile

right up my alley

Sounds more like Mollydooker Shiraz than a Bordeaux blend. Boysenberries???

I shudder to think of the points involved here.

Points, man!! How many points did it get?

The note has too many code words that say (to me) “don’t even think about it.”

I thought of Shiraz, too. Frankly, it sounds bad at any price. Powerful oak and candied fruit? No thanks.

Sounds pretty damn tasty. I’d be a buyer!

My thoughts exactly.

Clio maybe ? [basic-smile.gif]

Bet it’s Pinot Noir.

So, is it Mollydooker or Loring or Allegrini?

Oak, candy and jammy don’t do it for me but, worse is the lack of mention of acidity, structure or tannin. My guess any cali cab vintage or 2003 Bordeaux … hehe

Sounds to sweet for me. [beee.gif]

This is a shelf talker either at Max or Daniels store Just trying to move some wine [stirthepothal.gif] Just a joke

***** One of the top discoveries of the trip!!!*****

08 L’Aura is one of my top discoveries from the trip. I’m happy to say, even Bob has not tasted this yet. The debut vintage for this tiny Margaux property was only 3 years ago in 2006. Located in the Cantenac sector of Margaux they produced a whopping 200 cases in 2008! The blend from equal parts Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot is deeply colored with purple accents. On the nose, a powerful perfume of Jammy black fruit, oak, violets and candied fruit gets your attention. Very rich, concentrated and full bodied, this ripe young fills your mouth with very ripe, exotic, boysenberry, blue fruit and black berries. There is a touch of oak in the mouth, but with the wealth of quality fruit, that will integrate in time. This is a very, plush and opulent style of Margaux and a great success for the vintage. It’s a property to watch out for.
