Don’t let this initial orientation turn you off on the board. Half the people who post here are snarky bastards (me included). And the knowledge on this board at ALL levels puts most advanced sommeliers to shame. It’s a great place to share notes, a very well run board and the education is priceless.
Maybe wine retailers should clearly post something like this:
To first time, occasional and low spending purchasers:
We will charge your credit card. You will therefore be obligated to purchase all the wine you have ordered.
If, however, we receive requests from long time buyers and/those who spend a great deal of money, your order will be reduced or eliminated in their favor, as we do not feel obligated to honor your credit card purchase.
We will advise you of our decision within a reasonable time to be determined solely by our staff.
If the practice is so established why not be upfront?
I’m as mature & culturally accepting as anyone, so it won’t come from me. Will somebody less politically correct and extremely juvenile, please post that we now have 1 too many Wang’s involved in this thread…
Apropos of absolutely nothing, except maybe tangentially related to the cringe-worthy wordplay on Wang going around, but: honest, every time I see your signature, Jorge, I misread “excitement” as “excrement.” It’s an unfortunate image.
Not yet, I am bit into Riesling
What is it it with Asians and sweet wines? Oops, was that politically incorrect?
I’m more surprised that he wasn’t buying Burgundy.
haha i would if i could ever get allocation and had leftover money for it. or maybe just sneak back one of those barrels at hospice de beaune auction and age it myself.
