Yesterday we left Santa Fe to spend a few days with Sandy and Ken in the Las Vegas area. We stopped overnight in Kingman AZ to make our drive easier. We also want to have dinner at Mattina’s Sicilian Steak House. The original owner died a few years ago and one of their customers bought the restaurant from his widow. We wanted to see how they’re doing.
They completely remodeled the place, but the menu is essentially the same. We started with San Pellegrino, a 2003 Marchesi di Antinori Cianti Classico, and shared an order of bruschetta. The bruschetta was a ‘kit’, five slices of toast and a pile of chopped tomatoes, with mozzarella and basil. We asked for some additional olive oil. we got a plate with dishes of olive oil and balsamico, just what was needed to complete the dish. Since we’d nearly finished the Chianti before and with the bruschetta, we ordered a 2005 Brancaia to have with our steaks.
They had a special of a 7oz lobster tail and an 8oz filet mignon (surf 'n turf), Carollee ordered that while I ordered the 12oz New York Strip. We both got the mixed veggies accompaniment. Tonight was green beans, broccoli, & asparagus, very tasty, especially with a little balsamico added. The Brancaia was verynice with both dinners. We finished with a couple very nice intense double espressos and hear for our hotel.
