Last night we were joined by Donna & Ed Pratesi at Amavi. We started with a lovely 2007 Conterno Dolcetto Langhe - rich bright fruit, good acidity, and a medium long fruity finish. It was enjoyable with our appetizers of: Gambas al Aljillo for Carollee; a Green Salad for Donna; Seared Tuna, Tuna Tartare, and Caponata for me; and Squash Blosssoms for Ed.
When we had finished the Dolcetto, we had a 2005 Brunel Côtes-du-Rhône Villages - Rich dark fruit, good balance, and a rich, long finish. It was also nice with end of our appetizers and our mains of: Pollo Mattone for Donna; Halibut for Ed; Duck Breast with Peaches for Carollee & me.
Then we ordered a 2001 Viña Real Rioja - light red fruit, good balance, and a long fruity finish. It was lighter than the CdR, but still good with our mains.
We finished with desserts: Donna & Ed shared a Crême Brulée with a cappucino each; Carollee had vanilla & chocolate semifreddo with an espresso; and I had a rich Dacquioise - chocolate, meringue, & vanilla cream with a glass of Moscato Venise.
It was an enjoyable evening, meeting two very nice people via the ‘other’ board. We had nice conversations, good wines, and good food.
