Did anyone see this? 7 hectares destroyed by employee mistake?

I’m assuming the wrong concentration of a chemical is the only thing I can imagine. Has anyone heard of this kind of huge mistake before?

Gracias Adios in our vineyard no, but I can see something like that happen, wrong concentration, wrong chemical. Scary. I have a friend here in Ohio who has a fruit farm and an employee sprayed Roundup on his table grape vines…total loss.

Several years ago a winemaker friend had a few rows of his vineyard defoliated when the neighbors sprayed weeds on a windy day. Ugly.

Sadly, this wouldn’t be difficult to do.

Measure twice, cut once. Segregate your spray rigs and tanks. Never cross them back and forth between fungicides and herbicides. Etc.

That sounds like a “Roundup in the spray rig” issue.

Unfortunately our top chardonnay grower did in his 35 year old chard vines by accident. For PA that is very old. We made about 150 to 200 cases of this wine a year. His younger vines have not cut muster for a single vineyard blend.
