Are there two versions of this wine? I don’t know if anyone who bought this wine or a retailer that had access to the bidding list can answer this, but are there in fact two different versions of the 2006 Havens Merlot Reserves out there:
- A 100% Beau Terroir vineyard version(indicated on back label)
- A version that is a blend of Hyde and Beau Terroir vineyards version(similar to past vintages of the “only” Havens Reserve Merlot that i’ve seen) as indicated or where there is no specific indication of vineyard.
Any help appreciated if they have a bottle handy they can check.
Yes, there are two '06 Carneros Merlots, and I have a bit of each (not tasted). One is labeled Reserve, the other is Beau Terroir.
Perhaps the Beau Terroir is leftover juice that didn’t fit in the Reserve blend. In CT there are distinct entries for Caneros Merlot and Reserve Merlot, so maybe it’s also possible this is a version of the Carneros Merlot that is single vineyard for whatever reason.
Greg,
Do you know what it says on the back label of the 2006 Merlot Reserve? Is it vineyard designated or does it give a % by vineyard?
I think the Reserve Merlot mentions both Hyde and Beau Terroir on the back label. But I’ll have to double check when I get the chance.
Double checked, the Reserve says 100% Beau Terroir on the back label. The Carneros Merlot says 100% Beau Terroir on the front label, no reserve designation.
I checked the Bourriquot since that’s supposed to be about 50-50 Hyde and Beau Terroir, but it only indicates 67-33 Cab F/Merlot blend.
