Dead man walking '05 Bone Rock...12 days in the Fridge and still going strong?

A half of a bottle that I opened before we went to New York nearly fell out when I opened the fridge. Bone Rock? Can’t throw that out, so…into a glass, careful sniff, cautious taste…sweet mother, this wine is still going strong! Smooth, velvety, loaded with plum and pepper and tar and what the heck is this about? Justin Smith is the godhead. Or something.

How was it on day 1?

Very nice. A bit tight, maybe a touch more “vibrant”. Thanks for replying. I’m about to stop posting TNs for lack of any response whatsoever. It’s a bit humiliating.

I thought about replying earlier, but my thought had little to do with the bottle you drank so I elected not to reply. I was going to say (and am now saying) that the few bottles of Saxum I have tried never saw Day 2, let alone Day 12. I suspect if I did have leftover Saxum on the morning I was to leave on a 12-day trip to New York, it would have been finished from a commuter cup on the way to the airport. I think it’s interesting that the wine held up through your trip.

Anyway, I hope you keep posting your TNs. I read your notes and value them even if I don’t always have a worthwhile response.

I, for one, read many TNs. Many, IMO, do not deserve any responses, as there is nothing to add. This one, OTOH, got me curious about the wine on day 1. I love Saxum wines, I used to sell them when they were very unknown. Of course, as soon as they became known, I never got any to

Thanks, maybe I was feeling a bit dramatic, but it seems like there ought to be a better way for those posting TNs to feel as if they were at least providing something of value. As I’m already posting them in CT, I’ve always thought it would be interesting to just be able to make them part of your profile or sig file.

As to the Saxum–yes, very unusual to have any left over. I had spent the day cooking and wanted a wine worthy of my efforts. For some reason my wife wasn’t helping me drink it and some was left over and it got forgotten in the fridge. It’s probably a situation akin to the how many licks does it take to get to the center of a tootsie pop question. At least we know the answer. For what it’s worth, there were some dregs left in the bottle on the counter on day 13, sans cork or refrigeration and I’d swear it was still singing… [soap.gif]

I think looking at the number of views is a always a good indicator if people are looking at your notes.

Just start slamming 99 point wines, then people will start commenting. [training.gif]

I agree with Dan (again?). [truce.gif] I don’t always post comments if I have nothing to add. I am not surprised this wine held up, but I also rarely have any left for day 2. Its just to easy to gulp.

I am not sure if that is such a good thing for you, Loren.

Just because your tasting note goes without replies is not an indication of utility to the community. Lot’s of people prefer to lurk for one. Some notes don’t need a reply as Dan said. Plus it’s hard to know which will generate a discussion and which will not. Post away. It helps all in the long run.

Ken,

I agree - keep posting away . . . My initial thought is that one posts notes not necessarily for the reaction, but to share what they experienced themselves . . . I have been disappointed sometimes on all boards by the lack of ‘action’ on certain threads, but as Cris so eloquently pointed out, there are many many many lurkers out there who may not respond - but ARE listening . . . .

BTW, had a GREAT time with your brother, his wife Laurie, and the whole crew yesterday! Hoping to repeat this with you sometime!!!

I had forgotten that I had sent Bruce in your direction. Glad you had a good time. Hope he bought some wine from you…

i like to write inflammatory titles, that gets people to reply. [rofl.gif]

Excellent idea. Next note will be titled “Carlisle sucks.”

IS CAYUSE THE NEW SQN? [rofl.gif]

That was one of the most amusing wine talk threads ever. Who knew that a note about a 12-day-old Saxum could bring up such fond memories? See, Ken? You gotta post your notes!
