I had assumed that 505 was an easy pass because I have so much oakville dN cab already, but other than the much maligned 400 (are people coming around on this?) I don’t really see any. Was there any good sleuthing done on this one?
Turnbull Reserve was the consensus source guess for lot 505, of course subject to debate!
Mondavi The Estates was the other guess.
Case of Lot 512 Sta. Rita Hills Pinot Noir just arrived. Not “taking one for the Team” either. Open 1st bottle Nov 2025. Until then, I’m supplied with most all dN Pinot Noir from OG N.19 on up. I’ll open a OG N.19 tonight.
Oh come on Tim… really need you to take one for the team, …
Well your no fun at parties
Need to know if single or triple yum.
Ditto Tim! Good for you!!! 512 is a hold! At least a full year, or, until after bottle shock??
I may have missed a few dN PN’s, #412 comes to mind, intentionally missed All the Roses.
Any red PN that I DID miss? That’s Total Non-Buyers remorse….
There is an article in the SF Chronicle regarding Cameron’s sale of De Negoce . It’s behind the Pay wall, however it was linked in my Wine business daily today, if someone has access and would like to post the article I would appreciate the courtesy.
“The question is whether the new De Negoce leadership can recapture the magic that Cameron Hughes found."
Link:
Luckily you posted this right after the sale ended. Would I like a case of Turnbull Reserve at that price? Absolutely, but I just don’t get that same “same wine” feeling anymore.
I’m heavily mentioned in this article as I was interviewed by the author! Just read it, good stuff. To read just load in chrome and hold the ESC button. I’d copy paste the whole article but would want permission from the author.
One funny part is Cameron knew the article was going to come out and returned to the message board before it was published! I was interviewed about a month ago.
Here’s an archive link
For other articles, go to Archive today
Drop in the http and it’ll generate a new link to the article(like above)
If you go back up stream, he claims he didn’t know about the article . . .
Cheers
It’s possible he only agreed to be interviewed the last week but I’d have to think the author reached out WELL before I spoke to her a month ago!
It’s possible - as I was interviewed as well - but again, if you look above when I mention it to him, he seems like he’s not aware of it . . . Of course, he could be ‘playing dumb’ . . . Not sure in all honesty.
Cheers
Thanks for your courtesy Peter I was just able to read the article
Fun article, interesting that they bought 51% in early 2023 before buying the rest this year. What I’m really dying to know is what value the business transacted for (and/or any metrics like annual sales / profits)!
If you are looking for an out after a couple of years does that mean the model isn’t / wasn’t sustainable (again)?
Seems like maybe it works when the market allows it to, but when you try to force the bargains you will dilute your generic “brand” to the point of extinction. I guess we will see…
The bulk wine market, including the super premium bulk wine market, is just like any other commodity.
Due to inventory and market conditions I expect future offers to be quite favorable for De Negoce type buyers for the foreseeable future. Stay tuned…
I get it but this comment will always be in the back of my mind…
“We have total autonomy on what makes it and what doesn’t,” Yen said. On a few occasions this year, he said, Martin Ray wines have been used in De Negoce, but that was only because the wines met their standards.“
Ok. No conflict of interest there.
