DC/Arlington & Williamsburg

Going to be in DC for a few days, staying in Arlington. Then on to Williamsburg for a few days. Looking for some great wine shops and wine bars. Any good spots in Arlington without going into DC? Or good restaurants, but we will have kids, so nothing super fancy. Appreciate all recs!

I see Pirouette as a rec in Arlington from prior posts. Crap looks as though it is out of business! That one looked great.

Really enjoy Thompson Italian in Falls Church. I believe they permit corkage as well. All the pastas we’ve had there have been great and excellent vegetable starters. For wine shops, Arrowine is pretty decent. You won’t find any trophies or even many wines that are buzzy here, but very solid for a local wine shop. Good people too. Outstanding fromagerie and I think they’ve upped their baguette game recently, though I haven’t tried it.

Not in Arlington but Alexandria on the River is Barca. Cool spot with small plates and BTG. Also depending on the kids age and interest the Torpedo Factory is just a few blocks walk away.

About a mile away is a decent if slightly overpriced wine shop. I have no clue about parking as I am usually walking.

Nue in Falls Church is a very fine Vietnamese restaurant that allows BYOB. Children would be fine there. In Arlington, Arrowine is a good bet for a wine retailer.

Ruthie’s All Day for casual dining. Their biscuits are to die for.

Elle Bird in Falls Church is good - only $30 corkage. Also agree with Arrowine. If willing to drive further afield, Crystal City Wine Shop is a fun store.

In Williamsburg, you have to get sandwiches at The Cheese Shop. My favorites are roast beef and cheddar or turkey and havarti on French bread with extra house dressing. The house dressing is addictive and a staple of the William & Mary diet.
