Damn good Chard

2009 Ramey Chardonnay Hyde Vineyard

Wow, this was a freakin’ knockout! Absolutely delicious. It has evolved a bit since the first bottle I had about a year ago, which I remember being good but not at this level.

Drink 'em up!

I do not think I have ever had any Ramey, but Hyde vineyard has some damn good fruit.

I love the Ramey single vineyard Chards, especially Hyde and Hudson. To my palate, they strike a nice balance of fruit, minerality, acidity, and are plush without being too heavy. Just really well made wines…

other than it being delicious,
what did it taste like and why drink up?

While at the inaugural Bottleshock we had this bottle at Redd, showed very well. Lots of apple, dialed down tropical fruit and medium heft, good acidity.

Some of my favorite chards. We had an 07 Ritchie during thanksgiving that killed.

In the Zalto Universal, the nose was screaming with rich notes of pineapple and apple pie. More of the same on the palate with a bit of vanilla and pear. Excellent acidity and nice long finish. I can’t imagine it getting any better than it is right now.

Had the '09 Ramey Sonoma Coast not so long ago and liked it a lot. On the Burg end of the Chard spectrum IMO. IIRC this is not single vineyard.

that sounds great!

I had this a year ago and loved it:

  • 2009 Ramey Chardonnay Hyde Vineyard - USA, California, Napa / Sonoma, Carneros (12/20/2013)
Nose jumps out of the glass and leads to a wonderful palate full of pineapple and tropical fruit. This has good acidity with a silky mid-palate and a deep and smooth finish. (93 pts.)

When I tweeted about it, Ramey responded that their Chards were meant to be aged 10-12 years. I am not sure how much better it can get or if I can hold the one bottle I have that much longer.

The big 3 from Ramey (Hyde, Hudson, and Ritchie) pack as much bang for the buck as any chardonnays coming from CA.

FYI, Hyde Chard is also made by Hyde & I found it to be excellent !

Enjoying an 11 Sonoma right now…but not a great qpr at $35 IMO.

Don’t mean to boast, but I got it for $22 (2 yrs ago). Well worth it at that price, IMO.

Fan of the Ramey SV chards but apparently they have enough fruit now to market in Total Wine - nice because I can get it when I want it but before, I though I was getting something special direct from the winery! [scratch.gif]
