NOTE: this bottle didn’t really perform as expected and therefore no rating. When I happened to smell the bottle I thought I got a slight aroma of TCA but that did not present itself in the glass or on the palate. It just under performed on the nose and palate. Revisited the next day at a different offline and the wine was markedly worse than the day before. NR (flawed)

  • 1997 Jarvis Winery Cabernet Sauvignon Estate Grown Cave Fermented - USA, California, Napa Valley
    WIMLNR

Tasted March 20, 2009 at an offline.

Opened and poured about 2+ hours before serving. Dark purple to crimson color in the glass, clear hue throughout. Nose of lacquer, anise and balsamic. Some flavors of currants and berries. Light to medium acidity, medium tannins, medium body. Drink now.

NOTE: others at the dinner that tasted this shortly after opening thought the wine was really good. By the time that I got to it 2 hours later it had pretty much fallen apart. Bear this in mind when opening.

Joe thanks for the write up. I was under the weather on Sat/Sun and had no desire to post any notes.

I think you were too hard on the Barbaresco as I liked it quite a bit. As for the Jarvis, no idea what happened to that bottle in two hours. Went from really nice to really bad almost in an instant.

They were fairly busy and I think the pizza suffered a bit…still good though. I think you get the best pies when you go on a Sunday afternoon.

Two tables with 20+ blondes each.

Dan and I revisited it together the next evening at another offline. Trust me, it sucked. [rofl.gif]

it’s true, the barbaresco was off (it was much easier to tell the next day) [bye2.gif]

had a lot of fun, it was nice to meet you guys and gals!

Joe…thanks for taking and posting the notes. It was good to meet everybody.

I think that my wine of the night was the Conterno.

Pizza was good…but they were slammed and the proper crust just wasn’t there.
